Question How come non-originals play on my non chipped wii?

I have enjoyed reading through the various forum topics, FAQ and tutorials and have played around with getting Homebrew on my Wii and changing the IOS & CIOS successfully.

However I still am confused how despite reading in many places that you must chip MOD your machine in order to play non-original wii games.

I am an expat living here in the Philippines and therefore have easy access to non-original games at very reasonable prices in my local shops.

The thing is if I am to believe what I hear and read these games should not work in my wii as it has not been modified in any way whatsoever.

Can someone explain in technical terms why this is?

    Cheers

What do you mean? can you or can you not play games? if you have installed the things described in this forum, you should be able to play copied games, without needing a modchip, just software.

    Question Information

Ok, I did read some of the guides and generally I found them helpful - Thanks.

Before I joined this forum and before I made any sofmods to my wii I managed to play games that were not originals on my wii that I bought from the local shops in the philippines.

Also there are postings in the FAQ section of this site that say you cannot play copied games on you wii unless you have chip mods. Hence the newbie confusion.

The main drive for joining this site was to see if I could get a torrent download of wii sports working on my wii, as the shops here do not have any non-original copies available yet. I still have not got wii sports working yet by the way. Probably because its a PAL EU version and I think I have a NTSC machine.

    Thanks for your reply

Well first you need the motion plus to play the specific game. Second you have ot find the 002 error fix, that means upgrade to latest softmod and use alternate dols, search around to see what this means...

if you were able to play backups BEFORE you softmodded, you have a chip in there...someone sold it to you like that, or they softmodded it before you got it and used cIOScorp if you were loading from the disc channel...cIOScorp makes your wii load games through disc channel but its a very in-depth procedure modifying many of the IOS system files
