It works fine if you use the right loader.

Reason the soft mod is harder because when you update cios 36 it replaces the usb drivers so they work with the hdd's etc but then you lose instrument functionality. I've you use softchip loader you can boot it with cios37 and the instruments will still work =D


As to your question, given all things are right, It should just work. As long as you dont have any region issues. ie ntsc game on pal wii etc

if its same region it should be fine.
