Noob question about 4.0 vs 3.2

Please bare with me..

I am looking to chip my 3.4wii. I want to run backups off of an external drive. Now the questions:

Can update 4.0 only provide this? I know 3.2 is the ideal, but I see people are updating to 4.0. What is the drawback/benefit?

And if i wanted to run in 4.0, do i update via nintendo update or is there a modified firmware that you load instead?

-Thanks!!

You can do anything you want with 3.4. No need to update.

The only good thing about 4.0 (SD store of Wiiware and VC games) will come homebrew way soon.

If you must update then choose the modified updater by Wanikoko [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

If 3.4 is fine, than whats all the jazz about 3.2? Ive been reading that 'you must downgrade to 3.2!'.

And can you still run a USB harddrive as storage w/ 3.4?

Thanks for the help!

3.2 is over rated. I had USB running on 3.4 no problems.

3.2 was before the Truncha Bug fix (search) this why it is still considered the most compatible, I run 3.2 and have not found any app or program that I can't run and I don't use a chip.

It is still personal preference in the end.
