Hi all! Quick question about out of region disks

Hi all!

I posted a similar question in the homebrew board, but I think people are a little confused between soft and hard mod.

My sister's NTSC Wii has a wiikey (I think wiikey 1?), is a 2008 model (not LU64+), and is on 3.4U firmware.
No soft-mods at all, not even Home Brew Channel.

I am just wondering, will she be able to play PAL ISO's on her Wii? What about region-patched / brickblocked PAL ISO's?
I have heard that 3.4U won't recognize any ISOs that have been modified. Does that apply to hard-modded Wii's or only soft-modded?

Thanks!
Johnny

if the wiikey that she has offers the ability to play out of region games then yes PAL will work. im not familiar with region-patched / brickblocked PAL ISO's so not sure when they will or will not work. whenever firmware 3.3 came out that effectively eliminated being able to play trucha signed iso's, scrubbed games, patched iso's, etc. so basically anything like that wont work on anything higher than 3.2. although people have reported some do???? its not specific to chips or softmods. hope i helped.

Thanks!

I don't think the chip offers the ability to play out of region games.

So let me get this straight: since she is at 3.4U, I can't play any games that have been patched, even with a mod chip, right?

Thank you!

i think most chips allow out of region games to be played, u might want to look into yours. in theory patched iso's will not work even with a chip on 3.3+ firmware. like i said some people say they still play but im not inclined to believe them. if u wanna regionfrii and brickblock an out of region game to see if it will work go ahead. not hurt in trying.

Hi, I'm a newbie to Wii modding. I have a chipped JAP Wii but no idea what it in it (need to open up). Mine has firmware 4.1J and has been struggling to play some PAL games, original and backups. All my backups have been patched with Regionfrii and Brickblocker.

I'm sure I read somewhere with chipped Wii's the firmware will not affect it's ability to play anything, it's only softmodded ones are affected. Is this true?

Do chipped Wii's need apps such as backup launchers to play some games? It just seems strange some games work, some don't. All I get is a black screen.
