Both methods void your warranty in theory. Modchip or soft mod and you are voiding your warranty. In practice you are not. If a mod chip is taken out because the GPU failed and then sent it it would be covered by Nintendo.
Happened a lot where people took mod chips out and then sent in system to have it fixed up for free.

voiding the warranty and getting around the void is 2 different things. Any mod voids the warranty but if you do it right and can remove the trace you will be ok

But how can Nintendo knows if you've opened the case or not? There's no warranty sticker to rip to void the warranty.
So all you need to do is to take out your modchip and send your damaged console to Nintendo.
Even if they "might" not know, it is un-ethical, and wrong in my book.
Like overclocking your PC, if you fry something it's your fault, sure the manufacturer isnt really gonna know,
and you can prolly get away with an RMA,
but it still low, dirty, weaselly, snake like.....
In other words, useless sub humans do that sort of thing.
If you cant afford to replace it, dont do it......

Just my humble opinion.......
Are I see you believe that if you do right to everyone then everyone will do right to you.....
My theory is if its under warranty and they cant tell, return it. Makes them re think and make a better product if they keep getting returns regardless what has been done to it in the real world.
Low dirty weaselly and scum like is selling faulty guitar hero packs and at the point of sale being told if it breaks you need to contact activision. Then I hear of people waitin 8 weeks for a repair. Thats by definition low! Money Hungry! And Greedy! Selling products they know are faulty, but each their own I spose, I just wanted to point out that major companies if they can get away with screwing you they will, no if buts or maybes.......
What stickers, if you mean the stickers that cover the screws, as long as you know what you're doing, you can take the off and put them back on just as easely and not see the difference. You can't tell my Wii was ever opened, it's exactly how it came out of the box.

solderless wii modchips does not have to Void your Warranty
DriveKey / Wasabidx / solderless modchips does not have to Void your Warranty
Now theres been so much talk here by members about voiding your wii warranty if you mod your wii.
That is not neccessarily true....as many have had warranty repairs
if you use a solderless modchip properly...it does not alter any of the wii factory software, does NOT show any signs of tampering. Say your wii develops a warranty repair problem. Just remove the modchip..Close it up and Bam...just like factory. Send in for warranty repair
The reason you still have warranty is there are NO *warranty void if broken stickers* on the wii..like on ps2/ps3/xbox..etc... unless you were to openly say different.
Many, many have just removed the modchip and got their warranty repair
NOW...If you Softmod your wii and it becomes bricked....and you send it in for repair....They read your nand.....Bam..no warranty
NOW We are in NO WAY suggesting that is what you do...We are merely stating the Facts with regards to what most people with modchip modded wii's do if they require warranty repair and have had no problems.

Technically opening it up does, modding it or not just opening it does, however if you do it right there isn't any trace that it has been opened and you'd get very little trouble sending it in under warranty for repair.

Really? Ponder the common GPU failure problem, this is most common on early gen wii's where artifacts on the video would start appearing. This happened because of a design flaw where if wiiconnect 24 was left on and the wii is on standby it would heat up and eventually ruin the card. The system was meant to be able to leave wiiconnect24 on and go into standby, but because they overlooked certain things it can go. Its not something that can be repaired by anyone else either at this time as the gpu isnt available, and its not a simple snap in snap off solution either.

Not if you keep the stickers , just have to take them off properly, see my dissassembly video.
