Us How can i mod my wii and keep it from becoming a brick

im kinda new to this wii modding...ive been reading these threads. Worried about my Wii bricking.. How does it happen.. obviously with (wii updates in games) Do i need to use this wiibrickblocker and patch all the games i copied/downloaded. Can i just not have my Wii connected to the internet (wii-fi) to prevent updates? How can i mod my wii and keep it from becoming a brick

    you dont need a wiibrickblocker.
you could have your wii not connected to the internet but thats not very fun.
How? Your wii bricks when it tries to update the firware with another countries firmware
Prevent? so just make sure your frimware is most up to date (2.2).
You can check this by going to wii options -> wii settings -> right hand corner theres your firmware version.
    hope ive been helpful?

Be careful....if you do not have the latest wii firmware 2.2U, and NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET....and for example play the PAL version of a game....Say..a new release PAL game. ... YOUR WII will become *semi_bricked*.

The Pal Game will force a PAL dvd update on your non updated NTSC Wii....... then it is instantly semi-bricked .

SO YOU CAN BE BRICKED whether you are connected to the internet or not

Does it ask you if you want to upgrade the firmware or does it just do it?

    ...Hey GM Fatal

it's abit scary.... mario party 8 (pal) seem like it did it automatically... cause I was standing there ..yapping with customer and He put in one of his own into the modded wii he just purchased....I don't remember 100%...BUT IF given the option....would remember....

however mario strikers charged football... does give you the option as all the others that I have tried with the exception of the above....

    so...1 newly purchased modded wii...semibricked.....dang!

I exchanged it for another new one......and will figure out what or how to resolve the problem.....lol

If you don't know what games update the wii the easiest way to prevent it from bricking is just to stick with your region of game.. If it updates you don't have to worry.

alright i don't mean to derail this thread or anything but i'm a complete newbie... so if i have my Wii set to USA as the country.. i should only try to play back ups that are NTSC and not PAL or whatever other regional games there are?

    It all depends.

If your Wii is USA don't play PAL games unless you know there is no update on that game. If there is an update it can brick it. You definately can still play PAL or JAP games, just be careful which ones.

Safest route is just to stick to USA games. (Called NTSC) Then you dont have to worry about checking if they have updates or not. Most of the time you can find a copy of the game for your region anyways so I dont know why so many people play different regions.

THe Cyclowiz V2 ModChip for example allows playing any region game backup or original. This mod chip also sports an on off switch for upgrades minus bricking... best idea to think of is upgrade your system frequently with the mod chip turned off. so no worries when playing your off region games.

HOWEVER be warned jap games always have the newer... EVERYTHING!.. so read up threads on the game first. it may contain firmware not released to the NTSC crowd at the moment or even the PAL crowd

    MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!!!!!! :
i dont have personal experience with off region games with updates.. i am not sure if the games will force an update with that regions firmware vs. recognizing your up to date correct region firmware and skipping the upgrade
