Help deciding proper chip for wii

    Hi,

I purchased a used wii so I could mod it and play back-ups. It is either a D2B or D2C(75 percent chance) with 4.3u. I used to have a wii that I chipped with a d2pro9. It worked great, but I can't find a solderless one anymore. I was also interested in the Wii key 2/clip combo as well. Also, hard to find....

However, there is the drivekey2/wasabi dx. But from what I understand they limit drive speed to 3x. Wondering what you guys recommend, and if the drive speed is going to noticeably impact gameplay?

Also, it would be nice if it would work with a third party optical drive in case my wii's dies(i assume the consoles at least a few years old). Speaking of, would you guys clean the laser once you opened it up, or just use an electric duster?

    Thanks for all the help

Why not just softmod the wii?

Was considering it. However, i'm concerned because:
don't want to keep up with the things like software updates/game loading something that bricks my wii(that sort of thing), etc....
no spare external hard drive at the moment

You can still play backup disc's with a softmodded wii through neogamma.
Just follow the softmod any wii guide and you'll be set.

    Interesting,

I read the soft mod guide. Very doable.

Seems like, since all the games I want to play have already been released.....I wouldn't ever have a reason to update the homebrew channel/letterbomb exploit?

I was thinking perhaps I could get an old usb hard drive for free. Are all usb drives compatible with Wii? Also, I assume one can use a usb key as well to play backups from?

Also, if I do find a free hard drive, would you just spend the extra 50 to get a new horizontal black wii since it comes with a motion plus controller and a game?

    thanks again

Not all HDD's are compatible with the Wii. Search for our USB compatibility list and have a look before you buy one.

Yes you can use a usb stick/thumb drive to load your backups on.

Personally I wouldn't buy the horizontal wii because the motion plus remotes don't always work with Homebrew, but it is your choice of course.

So, i read up quite a bit and then softmodded today.....went well. However, i'm concerned my used wii may have already been chipped for three reasons. I'd really appreciate the input.

    1. After finishing the modification I realized I could load back-up discs through the disc channel without neogamma
    2. I installed mPlayer .07(with dvd support) and the system crashes if i try to play a dvd
    3. Whenever I load IOS 60 v54321 in 'MMM,' it reverts to IOS 58 v6176 after the system resets.

Just want to know whats going on. I installed syscheck but I can't decipher it. Is there a way to take a screenshot of the report and share it with you guys to determine if its already chipped. I ask because I don't want to encounter a conflict/i'd like the sdhc support of IOS 60/might be nice to play a dvd/...also i'm just curious about my equipment.

    thanks again

    1. You have either a chip, or cIOSCORP/Darkcorp. No biggie, wouldn't worry.
2.WiiMC is a far superior app for dvd's and movie files and such. -->http://www.wiihacks.com/homebrew/563...-v1-2-2-a.html
    3. Yes it will always revert back, but I'd use IOS 36, 236, or 249 rather than IOS 60.

    And syscheck guide here-->http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-gu...tem-check.html

Thanks again for all your guidance.

So. I can't get dvd's to work even in wiimc, which has me curious to see if its a "chip, or cIOSCORP/Darkcorp."

I ran syscheck. Hopefully that tells someone something. I could open the console, perhaps the laser needs to be cleaned anyway and thats why I can't play dvd's? Anyway, the syscheck info is below. On a related note, would you change the IOS?

    Spoiler

    Thanks again
