    Post A Detailed List of Firmwares and their Features: 1.0 - 4.3

    Here is a list of features offered by every firmware version from 4.3 to as early as 1.0 - the original firmware.

    Each new release has retained the same features as the previous firmware, in addition to what's listed, unless otherwise noted.

    ================
    Firmware 4.3
    Released: June 21, 2010
    ================

    Do Not Take This Update!

    This update is specifically designed to kill homebrew, adding no benefit to the Wii console.

    System IOS: IOS80-64-v6944

    **This firmware revision received an additional update on September 7, 2010. Included with this update were patches to
    many IOS which disabled downgrading and further anti-TBR (Trucha) attempts. Korean IOS are now included for all regions
    as a part of this attempt. Shop Channel updated to v20.


    Features
    • Updating online will bring your console to this firmware
    • Shop Channel Update (v20)
    • Most IOS revisions are updated
    • Adds IOS 80 (new System IOS)
    • Check for and removes HAXX, JODI, DVDX, DISC and DISK
    • Kills Bannerbomb (004 error)
    • Kills Riivolution (pre-1.04)
    • Kills Trucha Bug Restorer
    • Removes bootmii as IOS (Stubs IOS254)
    • If you had HERMES v5 IOS222, 223,224 will NOT be overwritten with a stub (v4 will).
    • IOS202 is NOT overwritten (v4 or v5)
    • IOS250 is NOT overwritten (copy of 249)
    • Smash stack (NTSC-U, NTSC-K, PAL) works
    • Indiana PWNS (NTSC-U, PAL) works
    • BatHaxx (NTSC-U, NTSC-J, PAL) works
    • Jabba the HAXX (NTSC-U, PAL) works
    • Return of the JODI (NTSC-U, NTSC-J, PAL) works
    • YU-GI-OWNED! (NTSC-U, NTSC-J, PAL) works
    • (Like 4.2) Kills region-free gaming for hardmods
    • (Like 4.2) Updates boot2 to v4, removing Bootmii in the process (can be re-installed if already supported on the console)
    • (Like 4.2) Checks for region-converted Korean Wii, if successful then the console will brick with a 003 Error (FIX HERE)

    Released: Sep. 28, 2009
    ================

    System IOS: IOS70-64-v6687

    Features
    • Most IOS revisions are updated
    • Wii Shop Channel updated
    • Deletes the Homebrew Channel v1.0.4 (title ID HAXX) and below
    • Deletes DVDX v1 (title ID DVDX)
    • Installs stubs (useless files with blank code) in IOS slots above 200 to prevent or remove homebrew
    • Kills region-free gaming for hardmods
    • Updates boot2 to v4, removing Bootmii in the process (can be re-installed if already supported on the console)
    • Checks for region-converted Korean Wii, if successful then the console will brick with a 003 Error (FIX HERE)


    Notes
    This firmware was designed to kill homebrew and bears no benefit over 4.1 at all. But if you've accidentally updated to 4.2
    you'll still be able to softmod using one of our guides in the RECOMMENDED FAQ's, GUIDES & TUTORIALS section.

    • New version of Nintendo Channel
    • New version of Internet Channel
    • Fixes an error where the Motionplus video in WSR would play if launched after exiting a Wiiware/VC game
    • Copy-protected save files put on the SD card by a previously patched System Menu can NOT be copied back

    Features
    • Completely kills Twilight Hack
    • SDHC (SD High Capacity) card support with a maximum 32GB storage
    • An SD icon which allows you to launch titles directly from an SD or SDHC Card is added to the Wii menu
    • The Data Management menu now has a "Move" button added along with "Copy" and "Erase"
    • The Wii Shop Channel will now allow you to download titles directly to an SD or SDHC Card.
    • Added Virtual Console Arcade support in the Wii Shop Channel
    • The Wii User Agreement, which includes the Wii Privacy Policy, has been updated.
    • IOS16 hack (used for piracy) is now fixed.
    • Downgrade will now brick the Wii (only if you have a Wii with 4.0 preinstalled or if you have updated through Nintendo).

    Announced: March 3, 2009
    =================

    This is a Korean-only System Menu

    System IOS: IOS52-64-v5661

    Features
    • First firmware to kill Twilight Hack
    • Only available to Korean Wii consoles
    • Designed as a homebrew killer
    • Includes IOS254 (a copy of IOS9, to block PatchMii)
    • IOS40, IOS41, IOS43, IOS45 and IOS46 have been updated.

    Released: Nov. 17, 2008
    ================

    System IOS: IOS50-64-v4889

    Features
    • Kills Twilight Hack v1 for most consoles
    • Stubs Patchmii IOS 254 (an old method of supporting DVDx, now used for Bootmii/IOS)
    • Adds USB keyboard support with Mii Channel
    • Updates Parental Controls
    • Changes Terms of Service to state that updates may run on the console without notification

    Firmware 3.3
    Released: June 18th, 2008
    =================

    System IOS: IOS30-64-v2576

    Features
    • Patches (removes) trucha bug by updating system IOS 30 to v2576
    • You can now move a Mii from the Mii Plaza to the Mii Parade in the Mii Channel
    • First attempt at disabling Twilight Hack
    • New version of Photos Channel (1.x-a)
    • New version of Wii Shop Channel
    • New version of Nintendo Channel


    Notes
    Version 3.3 checks for and deletes Twilight Hack and any other Twilight Princess saves exploiting the same vulnerability. However,
    it does not affect existing Homebrew Channel installations. It does, however, fix the signing bug, which prevents any "trucha"-signed
    discs from running, including the Homebrew Channel installer ISO versions.

    Released: Feb. 25, 2008

    • IOS37 (the first IOS with the signing bug fixed) released. At this point it doesn't do anything, though

    This version of the system menu updated channels to now display data gathered by WC24 (Weather, News). Clock display. The
    Wii Message Board button will now flash when a message arrives. You can now rearrange the order of your Wii Friends in the
    address book, scroll the message text by pressing the B button on the message screen. It was first distributed with Super Mario Galaxy.

    Released: Launch

    System IOS: IOS9-64-v516

    Priiloader Compatibility: Not yet tested

    Features
    • Does not report a version number
    • No weather or news channel available
    • Updates were only possible through the update options in internet settings.
    • Launching Channels was much faster: If you pressed start on a channel it immediately faded to black with the banner music still playing

    This is extremely helpful. I have never seen a list this complete. Before I found this, I would just search for a bunch of lists whenever there was a system update, and hope that combined they had all the changes (or at least correct).

    I noticed that in the 4.2 section you said that it "Kills region-free gaming for hardmods", but you later say "The most common misconception about 4.2 is that it's somehow less capable than earlier firmwares." That doesn't really make sense to me. I don't know anything about hardmods, so I may be way off.

    I hope this post doesn't sound like I am trying to "fix" your guide, because that isn't what I mean. I just thought I should mention it.

    Not at all. You're right that it could use some clarification. I was referring to softmods in the respect that 4.2 is as competitive as other firmwares. Certainly not the case for hardmods. When I get a chance I'll rephrase that line.

    Can you post in spoilers syschecks for virgin 4.1 , 4.2 and 4.3 ? I mean..let's view exactly how IOS'es look on a clean console .

    Indeed that is correct. I thought I had taken down the Priiloader information in a previous update. That oversight has been corrected along with a few other things I'd been meaning to update in here.
