Modified Wii Questions (regionfrii, brickblocker + firmware)

Hi Guys,

I have recently ordered a pre-modified wii with the d2pro chip & I have a few questions.

1. RegionFrii & Wii Brick Blocker

After reading through posts I read that its best to use regionfrii and brick blocker on download iso's to prevent unexpected updates etc...

Will it hurt to apply these to PAL games (my wii is PAL) just to be on the safe side?

also are these the best tools to use or are there any better out?

2. Firmware Update

I have read that the current firmware is fine with modchips for the moment,
However I have read a few posts that the very latest update has rendered some backups to not work.

So I was wondering if there is a way to update the wii to a specific firmware update? or something similar?

3.

Is there anything else I should to do the console / games before doing anything else?

e.g. software / firmware modification or things like the homebrew channel etc..

Thanks for your time

Regards
Scott

1. Wii Brick Blocker is fine. If your Wii is PAL and you're playing PAL games, it doesn't hurt to update the system, but DO NOT update your PAL system if you have inserted a NTSC-U or NTSC-J game inside.

2. There have been no problems for me and other people i know with the latest firmware ..

3. Not really, you'll need Twilight Princess to get the homebrew channel working though.

I would just like to add that you can also use Wiu1.1 that will allow you to remove updates as well as region patch using the same tool, although region patching is not required but does not hurt.

Also if you update to 3.3 (latest) you will require the use of GeckoOS to load Trucha Signed disc such as the custom Guitar Hero games. A lot of people decide to stick with 3.2 and not update to 3.3 for this reason. If you decide to update to 3.3 and you are interested in Homebrew then I would suggest that you install the homebrew channel using the DVD iso method before updating to 3.3 otherwise you will need to go through the more involved TP Hack method.

Jbloggs,

My newer titles such as tiger woods and de blop failed to load after i upgraded to 3.3u. It was workign previously. I tried loading with the latest version of GeckOS, but that hanged the system, thus requiring a reboot. Have you encountered this?
