Exclamation What's possible now?

Backups
  • Backups can be made with either a LG drive or a SD/USB Gecko.
  • To play Backups you need a drive chip.
  • Backups can be scrubbed to require less space on a harddrive.
  • Scrubbed Images are still correctly signed.
  • You still need a DVD burner to create backups.
  • Most people recomend Verbatim DVD-R.

Virtual Console / WiiWare
  • VC Games can be installed using the Twilight Hack. A Chip is not needed.
  • Deleted VC Games can not be re-downloaded from the shop. Rights Mangement is done with the purchase history of the server.
  • VC Games are trucha-signed, so IOS37 might stop the fun soon.
  • VC Games can be uninstalled completly.
  • VC Games are stored on the internal memory!

Homebrew GCN

Not much to say ... boring though.

Homebrew wii

Any Homebrew like the VC installer, can be exectued with either the Twilight Hack or the homebrew Channel.
First emulators (including SCUMMVM) supporting the wii mote are out.

The USB Gecko can also be used for memory editing, serving as a cheat device.

What do you mean? Are you saying that the emulators wont support the wiimote? NES, SNES, GBA, ScumVM emulators all support the wiimote.

If you ment something else...my mistake.

For Wii Games?
You will need a mod-chip nd no.

For these emulated games(NES, SNES, GBA, ScumVM)?
They run off of SD card not a USB drive.

Hi Guy's

I need serious help and I don't know where to get it. I have been looking all over the web; I understand that I must use a ModChip to use homebrew on my wii. But I don't know how to find out which modchip I need to use?

My wii console details are as follows:
The Wii Serial number is LEH200926***.
2006 Copy Right (EUR)
I bought it in Malta on 2nd August 2008.
My email address is: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

I emailed the company selling modchips and he replied "we have not any info about this new version and therefore open the wii and check the DVD-Driver IC (D2C2, D2E or xxx)"

So I have found an easy opening the console guide but how will I tell DVD-Driver IC (D2C2, D2E or xxx)?

Any advice or article to read or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Murphy

You don't need a mod-chip to run homebrew.

Homebrew is term used for applications/games that are developed by independent developers and usually not for commercial purposes. It also allows running Emulators and roms of older consoles. Playing "backup" games is usually referred to as "Modding the Wii" which requires the need for installing a modchip. And both are also referred to as "Hacking" aas both processes are ones that Nintendo does not want being done.
