What are the recommended values for LED's that are going to be modded into...

...a Wii Nunchuck & Remote? Hi, I am planning to mod the Nintendo Wiimote & Nunchuck and am looking for some specifications before I start the project. I am planning to do the Nunchuck Analog Stick Mod, the Remote A Button Mod, as well as other mods within these terms. I've researched for about 2 hours and cannot find anyone that appears to know the best type of LED to get. It appears that everyone just buys a random 3mm LED and solders it onto the circuit board. I already know that I should get a 3mm LED, but what I am most concerned about is the MCD rating. MCD measure the brightness of the LED from what I've read and I really don't know how bright one of these mods should be. I also don't know how much the Wii Remote & Nunchuck could handle. Is a 3mm 12,000 MCD LED suitable for this project or should I go lower? Is a resistor necessary or is it optional? Thanks for helping me. BTW, here is the link to one of the mods I will be doing.
