All right (apparently) I found a fix for those who get the disc cannot be read error, I really don't know if it will work for you, it worked for me but I'm not sure if the issue was because of the old laser reader on my wii...

Long story short, use a DVD+R instead of a DVD-R, I'm using neogamma r9 beta 52 on d2x cios v7 (base 58?, I don't remember the base, I followed mauifrog's guide), although I warn you I don't know if this will work for you, it might even have unexpected consecuences, (my disc drive for example, has been making a lot more of noise than usual with the DVD+R, can someone tell me what's it for?)

Usually with the DVD burnable media the plus or minus makes a difference on DVD players. The minis R series is compatible over a much larger brand and type than the plus R. Its interesting that it would make a difference on the wii. And id does actually make a difference. After reading your post i tried burning a few games that i have not been able to get working in the past and believe it or not they booted up first time around with a +r disk. (strange). Good find though! Things like this are what let the community thrive even if there by accident, lol. Also in my case with Zelda check either your memory card for corrupt data or a corrupted game file. Just another suggestion to try.

yeah I really don't know what is it about DVD+R that makes it work, even more if I recall correctly wii's don't even support DVD+R as it is, it can be read thanks to the softmod I believe, because in the old times when my wii only had the hardmod I'm pretty sure it could not read any DVD+R, anyways thank god I can now properly play Skyward Sword, it's just as great as everyone says.
Also in case the DVD+R thing doesn't work for you, sometimes, only sometimes, when you get the disc could not be read error, eject the disc and inmediatly put it back in, it may read and you can continue playing, hoping to reach a save spot, however this method is too unreliable to depend on it to play, I really encourage you to try burning the game on a DVD+R

Ok sorry guys but I have been trying for ages all the steps and it doesn't work.
1) Firstly I have USB loader GX and I extracted the ISO from my Original SS disc (cos I didnt want the system update)
2) then I tried downloading the Mod Manager and WAD pack (btw the links the OP gave all are broken, so I had to find other sources online) and I installed on 36 IOS and one of the WAD didnt get installed completely (iOS250) I dunno why. But I changed to install at 249 and it works fine for all.
3) Now suddenly after doing all that my USB Loader DX doesn't recognise my USB anymore and it says there isn't any USB detected (even when it was fine before) and keeps asking about IOS 249 and IOS 222 for me to re-try. apparently it's fine when I click 222. but somehow my SS memory on the USB doesn't seem stable and the memory jumps from 2G to 5G. wtf?!
4) At this point I don't even know wth I'm doing. Because all these numbers are giving me a headache and it seems to lead more problems. Could anyone just help me out here? I just want to play my Original Skyward Sword game without bricking my 4.0U hard modded (I believe) wii. Is there ANY way I can play my original disc without all that USB Loader GX crap I have to face and go through again?

Hi all, thanks for guide.
I got it working with cIOS 249 d2x v6
Game ran perfectly fine until I got to the first race on the birds, I begin the race ok and start chasing the thing.... then all of a sudden the controller stops responding and link just floats down, the game never stops or crashes but the controller is not responsive to any buttons, including power, required a hard reset, tried again, same thing.
Wii is softmodded 4.2U with most recent USB Loader GX
Any help is appreciated.
edit: just wanted to add, the light on the controller stays ON.
