    Xenoblade Chronicles - Softmoded 4.3u

Attempting to get this game up and running. Everything seems fine till I get about 30 to 40 minutes into gameplay, then I'll get a random freeze. It's happened in a different place every time so far. This is my first attempt at softmoding/playing off an external hdd on this platform.

Wii was relatively new and previously untouched (as far as modification), and I followed mauifrog's guide to the letter. external drive is also brand new and untouched, reformatted it to fat32, and used WiiBackup Manager to assist with getting the right files in the right places. Don't think there's an issue there (though there could be). I remember reading somewhere that a drive spinning down due to a power save mode would cause problems, but I can't seem to locate any such thing on my hdd (Seagate Free Agent Go Flex 500gb).

Also I've been trying IOS 248

I dont recall which one is d2xv6[38] in the mod, i think it's 249, but that is what I run the game on.

I feel like this is a bad question, but how can I tell what ios is linked to which number? IE, how can I figure out if I have d2xv6[38] installed or to what it's linked? (whether it's 249 or something else)

Syscheck results show ios 248 and 249 both being rev 21006, the difference being 248 is usb 2.0 and 249 is es identify. I'm not sure what es identify is, but I'm running the game off of a usb hdd so I'd guess I should be using an ios with usb 2.0 support.

My question now is whether 21006 is what you referred to (2xv6[38])
If it turns out I have what I'm supposed to, are there any settings I should be tweaking from within CFG usbloader to deal with the freezing.
I'm also pursuing the hard drive power save/sleep angle, but I'm having to wait on Seagate tech support to email me the drive software (I reformatted mine away without realizing I might need it, and it's not available for download)

Either way I really appreciate your help. Fixed or not I feel like I understand what I'm doing a lot more than I did earlier (even if I'm still mostly fumbling around with stuff above my head)

quick edit - I did a quick test using 249 and it froze during the loading process

Depending on when you followed Maui's guide the cios (21d2xv6[36]) could be 248 or 249. His latest packs have it in the 249 slot. From the sounds of it you have it in the 248 slot (base on the fact that you said it doesn't load on 249). You could always install it in an unused slot and try it out to be sure. If you are feeling good and want to experiment while you await your software from seagate you could give it a shot, just use a slot above 200 that is not in use (refer to the syscheck you just ran)........Custom IOSx Rev 21 Installation Guide

As a side note I have seen quite a few folks having issues with sleep mode on seagate drives. If you go to your Seagate Dashboard Utilities and click on Drive Settings you can change the Power Settings to Never.

EDIT: Saw you were awaiting the software. I will pm you the link to it.

Mind telling how exactly you got it fixed? I recently played the game but didn't play that long so not sure if it will freeze or not. I recently used Maui's hack on an untouched Wii. I use the Custom USB and used the defaults and it played fine for 20 minutes or so. Thanks.

Yeah no problem. All I had to do was make sure the correct cios was installed and choose that channel. If you used Mau's most recent tutorial, it is already installed and set to 249. 248 seems to be the default (and will play most other games apparently), but use 249 for this one.

Also you'll want to make sure your hdd is set to never turn off or spin down from inactivity, as this can/will cause your game to freeze if it does. Whatever USB drive you're using will have software or settings to this affect if it has a sleep mode or power saving capability that would cause it to spin down in the first place.

I'm a scrub here but if you'd like any other help I'm happy to try and assist
