    Is it a backup disc?

Unless you have cioscorp/darkcorp or a mod chip, backups won't play through the disk channel.

and you installed cioscorp (which can cause other trouble, if you are going to install it) or have a modchip?
or what makes you think this backup disc should run from the discchannel?
stick to loading through neogamma or uloader

maybe you need a firmware update of your chip for this, it is a new one, there is no getting to work guide/thread, yet. don't know if needed though.
but of course it could be that further treatment is needed, like scrubbing the .iso before burning, patching something or similar.

edit: if there are real problems it will be mentioned in this Problematic Games & solution list, nsmb is on it, maybe you want to have a look on that.
also the disc has the 4.3 update on it, likely that the chip's block updates setting interferes/crashes the wii. you could think of Installing Priiloader instead (reliably blocks any update action on your wii) and disabling the blocking in your chip settings, see if that helps.

This has been a problematic game for modchips, thats why you have neogamma, right?

    Not specifically for this game.......

Using neogamma, R8 Cios 17, it drops into a black screen, with lots of white text. Explaining that a DSI error has occurred and then plenty of numbers/hex codes

Ive burnt this onto 3 dvd-r's using a brand ive had countless successes with - all have the same problem

Can anyone advise what to do?
