Just to report the first post of this thread worked for me - with the following notes:

    1. I use USB Loader GX v2.0. I tried IOS 222 first, it didn't work - a buzz after pressing the "A" after the welcome screen. Then I tried IOS 223 and with the Fix error 002 set to "YES". This time it works flawlessly.
    2. No need to patch the Hermes cIOS before the tweak. Now it is Feb 2011.
And I softmodded my Wii from 4.0U to 4.1U recently. So the "Softmod Any Wii" modpack probably has done the Hermes cIOS thing for me already.

    Thanks a lot.

Game loads fine for me with 223[37+38]. I have 50 minutes logged in so far, and then the problem hits. I leave the village (offline) to go to the woods and I get stuck at the loading screen. The letters still move like it is loading, and I can get the anti-home icon to come up when I press the home button. It just does not go further.

Ive got a similar issue. My Wii was setup using mauifrogs 4.3 guide. I am using CFG USBloader and 223 37 merged 38 to load the game on the "223 mload" setting. Also have 002 error fix set to yes. Game loads great. Freezes and throws into an endless loop on the first cutscene. Not sure what else I can do to fix it. Gameplay seems to be ok though. Just doesnt like the cutscenes.

Did you read this and follow thru?

    INSTALL

    1. Remove all GameCube memory cards and controllers, remove any disc that may be in the DVD slot, and unplug any usb device that may be plugged in. * This step is very important. Do not ignore it .
    2. UnRAR the Install Hermes cIOS v4 archive and copy the cIOS_installer folder to sd:/apps/
    3. copy the 00000001 folder to the root of your SD card (for offline install)
    4. Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer
    5. Read the warning message and push A
    6. Select IOS249 (or IOS236) to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
    7. Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS38
    8. Wait for download and installation to complete
    9. Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer again
    10. This time select Custom IOS 223 and select IOS37 merged with IOS38
    11. Hermes cIOS is now installed.
    12. Look HERE to install IOS202 and IOS224 from Hermes v5.

I have had no issues playing MH3 using 223 until I updated my USBloadergx to v2.1. Since then the game will return to the wii menu.
I finally tried using default settings (which for me is cios 248 [56] 21d2x3) and have no problems playing.

Try this is anyone is having issues.

    Im still having problems.

I managed to solve the buzz problem after I press A, but every time that i try to make the quest "Guts: It’s what’s for Dinner" i get stuck in the load screen. After that, I can only play the quests I have already completed, but I get stuck whenever I try new ones. If I delete my save data, the problem seems to be fixed, but when I get to "Guts: It’s what’s for Dinner" again, the same thing hapens.

This guy seemed to have the same problem, but he closed the thread after solving it and the solution he found didn't work for me:

I've tried running the game on IOS223, no luck. Still freezes on the "Begin the game" thing.
LU34 wii, running on 4.3u, bootmii installed on boot2 and priiloader.
