Madden 09 Asking For System Update?

Hey all, I just borrowed my brother's new Madden 09 for the Wii. I do have Wiikey modchip for backups. However the game is asking for a system update. Now what does this update? Does it update the game (I presume the Favre, Jets roster change) or does it actually update my wii firmware and run risk of not being able to use backups anymore. Could this update, be risk of what I heard is called "Brick your Wii".

What if I used Rawdump to dump game and then WIU to block system update?

I wanted to test the game out and maybe buy it later.
Any help would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.

Cool thanks man. I took the chance and updated it. It works, we played a few games and it is real fun. Not sure what it updated, though. Pennington is still on Jets, and I could not find Favre. But at least the game is fun and works after the update.

ifyou have the latest firmware 3.3 and the game still asks for an update, what i do is patch it anyway. i know it wont hurt, but better be safe than sorry ya know.

I brickblock all my games, thats if WIU detects an update.

Especially Mario Super Sluggers, wiu detected an update firmware, but it said Unknown, which was weird. but i patched it anyway.

Well I don't brick block all my games. I first run Wiu 1.1 to see if there is an update on the disc, if there is, i remove it. Even though my firmware is at 3.3U, i still remove it. If the game doesnt have an update, I don't do anything.

But yeah, it wouldn't hurt to be extra cautious. better to be safe than sorry.
