WiiWare - is it worth the effort

    Hey,

I have been looking at a couple of wiiware titles ( World of Goo and Lost Worlds 2 ).

I read through the tutorial, and I am sure I can follow it, but it seems alot of fiddling about to get the set up working.

Has anyone done this and is it worth the effort?

This is not a laziness question, purely one of genuine interest - are the WiiWare games worth playing?

    Thanks

    Tango

World of Goo at least is completely worth it. After playing it I'd say even if it took you 2 hours to decipher the guide and get it done right it would be worth it.

After soft modding itself, and USB loaders, WiiWare from an emulated nand on the hard disk is the best thing since, err, USB loaders!

It increases the fun twofold easy.

^ That's reason enough. Just be aware that not everything is compatible with triiforce so for the rare game you really want to play that isn't compatible, you may have to install the wad to your actual nand. Triiforce is also a lot more brickproof than installing games over and over.

OK, confirmed this is cool. I did it last night and tested with World of Goo - all ok (Dunno if you want to add that to your list of Confirmed working??)

I am soft modded 4.1, Triiforce from 2GB SD using the forwarder.

I am considering the USB version, but need a guide, thanks for all the advice.

Just a shame Lost Winds Melodies doesnt work ( havent tested, just heard )

yea, triiforce rocks. i am actually in the market to upgrade my external, so that i can repartition it, so that i have a fat32 partition on the drive so that i can install all my wiiware/dlc/ect onto there, instead of internal/sd card.

on a side note. what have you heard about LWM? i have it, it loads (i'll be honest, i haven't played it yet, so if its an issue later on in the game, i can't confirm) but i can say that it loads fine. hth's!!

As I understand it, the game loads and plays but will freeze up after zone one. I have it to try, but I have yet to see anyone who has got it working ( via Google )

    Compatible Games

Not sure I can post that link to another site, so MODS please remove if infringing TOS. I haven't seen a simliar thread here, and that link shows all compatibility.

I've been wanting to test some of those results on that list. There's a couple games that I have had no problems running, like Castlevania Rebirth (though mine is japanese). I played 4 levels the other day without a hitch. Megaman 9 worked for me as well, so I'm skeptical about the list a little.

Some people have said that the problem exists in the save game creation for some games, like Lostwinds: WotM, but if the savegame file existed on the nand when it was dumped, it would be ok.

I haven't tested any new games lately, I've been too busy customizing triiforce

As for steps to get it working from a usb drive, the steps are the same as the SD card guide. Just put all of the nand folders on the root of your USB device's Fat32 partition. Don't install the forwarder though if you intend to launch triiforce from the USB drive though (i am currently launching it from an S card, but the nand and games are on the usb device)
