Tealc: What evidence do you have that the disc would upgrade it to 3.4? (That is serious, I am not just being sarcastic and assuming you have no evidence.)
I'm not being defeatist, I'm posting on other fora that I've found since posting here (the bothersomely obscurely linked WiiBrew forum in particular).

I am looking into Bannerbomb to see how it interacts with what I have now anyway, to see that it might be possible to upgrade to 4.1 without significant problems.

Use NSMB to update you to 4.1 and provide you with a few new IOS, WFP will surely work then.

We do know that WFP uses IOS53 but we haven't documented it's update as of yet. Most games released in the last few months have been 3.4 updates, apart from NSMB and a few Jap games which have had 4.1. In due course more games will filter through with 4.1 or even 4.2 but that hasn't happened yet.

WFP works fine on my 4.0E Wii, with latest IOS 38, 53, 55 and cISO249rev14 installed.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Here's what I've done so far to try to get Wii Fit Plus to play from the disc without saying "Wii System Update". So far, no luck

Updated from 3.3U to 4.0 (wii firmware updater 4.0) - no dice
Updated from 4.0 to 4.1 (wii firmware updater 4.1) - no dice

Updated to IOS53v5406 - no dice
Updated to IOS38v3867 - no dice
Updated to IOS55v5406 - no dice

    What now?
