verbatim dvd-r seems to be the best way to go.

Taiyo Yuden, unquestionably #1, followed by Verbatim. Personally if your burner supports booktype/bitsetting, I'd opt for the +R and set for DVDROM. Some people claim DVD-R is less "laser wearing" than +R but I think that's debatable at best. What's not debatable is that bitsetting to DVDROM is superior and not possible on DVD-R (you never know if N is gonna decide to "bang the hardware" enough to check this flag, ya know?)

Well @ Sam's Club they sell Verbatim 16X in the USA. I wonder if 8X could be found at this point. Ultimately a non-issue you should burn @ 4X or less (so I'd go with whatever is cheaper or available). Hey, hope you are or have done the 4.2 Mod to actually play burned discs.

Edit: Taiyo Yudens sell as 8x and 16x and can be found quite reasonable on merritline.com (not sure if spelled two "t" or one).

Burn them really slow. 2x or 4x max.

I use cheap Sony DVD-r from the local walmart, never had a game that didnt work(because of the disc). I burn at 16X most of the time.

I use memorex usually, but when i recommend something it's usually verbatim because that's been verified to work the most by other members from what I've seen.
