Retail copy will work with D2CKey without any HBC/Softmodding/cIOS/NeoGamma?
Sorry but I have read this up and down and am still not sure.
If I have a D2CKey hardmod and no softmods, can I just put the retail (store-bought) NTSC DVD disc in my NTSC Wii, run the disc update and play it without any crashing?
There's no point in wasting 60 bucks if it's not going to work... Can someone confirm this works?
(I would rather buy games for now and wait for a new modchip that beats this than open the pandora's box known as softmodding)

Only site donators may send a PM to WiiHacks Staff
retail (store bought) should work fine. and by the way softmodding isn't as cumbersome as you imagine it to be. i found and printed out the instructions and did it in less than a half an hour and that was in june, since then i have only needed to add a couple of system files to play this and softmodding provided an easy way for me to do it via homebrew channel. besides there are alot of folks here who can help answer any questions and put your mind at ease

for those who care, here's what I did to make it work...

1)Install hbc via normal method
2)Install dop-ios (to apps folder on sd)
2)Either install NeoGamma R8 beta7 to HBC (add to apps folder on sd) or Install the Channel Wad (Search for it)
3)Install/trucha patch the latest ios53 from dop-ios (or from the iND release, which should be the same as the latest)
4)download the SMNE.dol from this thread:
5) add SMNE.dol to sd-root:/NeoGamma/
6) insert unpatched disc into wii
7) run NeoGamma select "Alt .dol: SD" in options.. then "Save Config"
8) run DVD

ok, i started off knowing very little, no idea what an ios was, never played a game off anything other than a disc, and kept getting errors whenever i tried to install wads and dols and whatever, it was all very frustrating. i now have a downloaded copy working FROM THE DISC! played for about 3 hours with no problems. here's what i did, step by step (not sure what is essential and what isn't, just everything that worked for me):
my setup: ntsc-u wii with 4.0u and 1.9s wiikey and homebrew channel with 512mb sd card
1. downloaded and burned "New_Super_Mario_Bros_EUR_Wii-iND-FiXED"
2. backed up the contents of my sd card on my pc, erased everything on the card, then carefully followed all the steps in this tutorial: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...0-4-1-wii.html
3. downloaded NeoGammaR8beta8.zip (brand new version) from here (will have to register to dl, only takes a second): Neogamma R8 beta7,Configurable usb loader V47b2,WiiFlow r20 - TehSkeen.com
4. unzipped into the apps folder on the sd card, put the sd card back in the wii, load neogamma from homebrew channel, put the burned disc in, then selected "load from dvd" - didn't change any options at all.
that was it, game plays from the disc now with zero problems for as long as you want. you still have to load it through neogamma each time, though. if you try to do it through the disc channel, the game will throw a disc error after ~10 mins or so.

I got it working
I used update #3 and it worked fine here (3.2U + Wasabi v3).
After getting the fixed ISO, I loaded and launched it in 'coverfloader' and set the fix to 'anti_002'. It works fine. And yes, I played beyond 10 minutes.
Don't PM me. I agree with other posts well above mine, this thread is just ridiculous.

Dave, I have IOS53-64-v4113 installed and NSMB works fine from USB HDD. Just wondering why I should update my IOS53 to the one you have posted in the tutorial.
