OK. I am still going through the 178 pages of this thread to see if anyone else had this issue but I thought I might ask the question in the mean time and see if anyone has an answer for me.

I am soft modded, and I am using a ntsc (USA) wii. I am using USB loader gx. I have a brand new copy of NSMB. I put it in and rip it to my Western Digital usb drive. (This drive is one from the list of confirmed drives that work.) The file is about .36GB. I load the game through the USB loader and it starts up. I start a new game, watch the begining video where the princess is kidnapped. The game then goes to start but I get just a black screen. Nothing happens. If I restart my wii and go back into the game and try to load a game the same thing happens. It just goes to a black screen.

I tried patching the main.dol as suggested in the first post of this thread even though you shouldn't have to when using the USB loader but it did not work. Any ideas?

EDIT: Since I posted this I have tried to delete and reinstall the iso to the hard drive, I have installed IOS53 v5406, and I have tried to use cfg-loader. Still having the same problem. Please help.

Something else i noticed when installing the game from the original disc to the hard drive using usbloader gx, is that it get to about 42% complete or so and then comes up and says installation successful. Other games go to 100%.

What do you have for CIOS249? Also try NeoGamma instead of USB Loader.

I haven't ripped a game to HD personally but I am pretty sure that the reason why it only appears to go to 42% is that the end of the real data is at 42% of the disc and the rest is garbage data.

Thank you for the response. I have CIOS249 rev 14. If I try to play from NeoGamma R8 I get the "An error has occured. Remove the game disc and restart the wii..." error message.

The real strange thing about all this is the game loads in the USB loader. I see the intro screen and press 2 to start. I select my game file and you here Mario say "lets go" or whatever it is he says. Then you get a black screen.

What beta version of NG r8 though? Since you are using 249 r14 then you will want to use NG r8 beta15. Or you can install 249 beta15 and use NG r8 beta13.

OK. I am using Beta 7. I downloaded beta 15 and tried it. I still get the same error. I see a split second of green screen and then the error screen. Are there any special settings I should be using. I select to load from usb and I see Super Mario Bros there. I go to load it and the error occurs. Do I need to be going into the config options and changing anything?

For future reference: Always put homebrew in /apps/[homebrew name] and make sure the the .dol is named boot.dol.

You can get the wad for the channel here.

Thanks. I edited my last post as I moved the folder to apps and booted it from homebrew. I also set search patches to enable but I am still getting the error. This is driving me nuts. Any other ideas?

    EDIT:
OK so I put my modified ISO back on my HD that I made earlier with then new boot.dol as the tutorial in the beginning of this thread tells you to do. Mario Bros did boot up in NeoGamma this time however it is doing exactly what the USB loader did to me. After I go to select a game file and start the game, I get a black screen. So I am back to square 1. Any thoughts?

    hi all,
spent most of yesterday (yes, christmas) and this morning trying to get through forums/googlesearches, but to no avail. so ANY help would be appreciated. one issue is that we basically brought it to the store a few years ago, had people "mod it" for a few bucks and brought it back. we don't have any special channels, no extra usb keys/sd cards plugged in. we just backup games (or download backups), burn it to a dvd and it plays.

from this, i assume we have a modchip (can anyone confirm/disconfirm this?). we've also used wiikey updates, which also hints that its a modchip (according to wiki anyway)

currently, the wii system info says it's version 4.1U. we got the wii in the US. my friend backup-ed his NSMBW for me to try, but is it okay to do the system update?!?!?!
it seems like everyone has softmods, so i would appreciate it if someone with modchip experience (or just a lot of experience with this stuff in general) could help me out here. i would HATE to end up a bricked wii for the holidays.

    THANKS A MILLIONNNNN! happy holidays

btw, from all the posts i've read, this is an awesome site and community, so keep it up!

I have a question. I have a 3.3U wii and I did a nand backup and bootmii so I can play games of the disk channel. I used cioscrop 3.3 since 3.4 froze my wii. But when I use hermes cios222 and go to cios249 and load it and use ios38 recommended it freezes everytime.

OK. So I got Mario working so I wanted to post what I did. My brother has one of the DVD drives for his computer then can read Wii games. We created the ISO on there instead of trying to go straight from the Wii to the hard drive. We then used the Wfsd manager to move the iso to the hard drive. The game loaded with no problems. I have heard some people say that they have black screens after a certain level but I have not played through it enough yet to tell you if I get that problem.
