Here is my system setup
I have taken the quif release (full version), patched it with the proper fix.
Burned the file that was created to disk.
When I run it in disk channel I get the error screen (eject disk, restart wii).
Can someone please tell me what I have to do from here to get it to work?
I think I have to install Neogamma but do not really want to add anything to my wii if I do not have to.

Hi, i think some of you have sucessfully make run the game within disc channel.. My wii is actually on 4.2u and i'm presently able to play it within neogamma b8 r12 but i find this way too complicated for my child so can you explain me more on how i can make the game to start from the disc channel ? I can apply the trucha patch but on ios 38 v5106 which is associated with 4.1u firmware.. How can i apply it to the 5406 (4.2u) ?

kidsat: If it crashes immediately with a black error message when loading it from the disc channel, then you don't have the truncha bug enabled. I used Dop-IOS v8 to allow a truncha signed game to run. It does not work without the truncha patched IOS.
gazzaman5: Is the BAHAMUT disc from the same region as your Wii? If not, then that's probably why the update doesn't work. Also, it's a pain to get it to work via the disc channel. You must have a hard mod with the correct IOS patched for trucha. It's easier with a usb loader.

jtan, thank you for your response.
I am confused. How do I install the ios?
Keep in mind I have no homebrew channel installed and my wii is hardmodded.
I dont want to screw anything up.

Using USB Loader GX
So, I finally got my copy up and running, though it has a few quirks.
Here's my setup: I have two different revs of USB Loader GX running - my Wii channel is rev828, and through Homebrew Channel its rev 815. I can only seem to run it in rev815, but not outright. I boot it up through HBC, then select the game, and must go into settings. I turn 002 fix off (it's always on for me), and then turn it back on. Go back to the image of the disc spinning and I must let the full NSMB jingle play. Then the game will load successfully. If I don't do this, it is just a black screen. Why I have to do this, I have absolutely no clue. It's annoying, but if it gets it running, I'll do it. It's just extremely silly.
If anyone has suggestions, I'll take 'em. Otherwise I'll jump through these hoops.

kidsat: There's a nice tutorial on how to soft mod your Wii. On the top click on Tutorials. Then use "New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii" or "Full hacking guide for 4.2 system menus!!!!" You can see what version you are running by going into the Wii Setting and looking at the top right.
Then I use this youtube tutorial to allow the truncha bug. I believe this is also in the tutorials mentioned above.
Finally I used DOP-IOS v8 to patch IOS60 for my system 4.1 menu (so it doesn't crash the disc channel) and IOS53 for NSMB (so it doesn't crash when I hit start on the disc channel).
As always, this is at your own risk.

Softmod DVD Loader
I can confirm that the disc loading update worked for me and I am now running NSMB from a DVD-R.
I am running:
Thanks so much!

Why do we have to use the Qwiif ISO? Why can't we use our own backup ISO and patch it?
What makes Qwiif's so special or different?
By the way I did try my own but it just gave me a 0k ISO that I can't use. For now I have it working off of USB via usbloader GX and NeoGamma r8beta12.
Yes I could download Qwiif's verison but it would take a few hours to download. It's much easier and faster just to make my own backup.

dandee68: I had the same annoyance as the main.dol I've downloaded were either Pal version or for Qwiif. I went through 6 DVDs trying to get it to work. So I used "SuperDump 1.3 by tueldj based on Wii disc dumper 1.2 by nitrotux, CaitSith2" to dump my retail us game disk to the hard drive. Next I combined the two bin files to make an iso. Then use Wii Scrubber to extract main.dol. Afterwards, used a hex editor to modify 8 letters. Used my newly modified main.dol file to replace the one in my iso image and then put it into my WFBS hard drive. It read it correctly as 0.36 GB. Here's my main.dol file if you have trouble with the hex editor.
I find it more reliable to backup my Wii games using SuperDump than to download it from the internet. The one's on the internet are usually either from a different region or have been trimmed which only work with the truncha patched IOS.

Here's the hex entries to modify for NTSC)
