***UPGRADE USB LOADER GX TO CURRENT REVISION 921***

First: Install Hermes' cIOS 222 v4 Installer and select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select Use IOS38 merged with IOS37 then re-run installer and choose custom IOS 223 and select IOS38 merged with IOS60.

Second: ***Update USB Loader GX To Rev 921 or most current revision*** rev 921 is the most current revision as of today 3/23/10 check here for the most current revisions. To do this you will have to choose one or both of the following methods: (1) Update USB Loader GX On SD Card or (2) Update USB Loader GX Channel. (note: for some unknown reason, trying to update USB Loader via the update button located in the settings of USB Loader GX does not work and the program always says no updates found, or at least this is what mine did...)

    (1) Update USB Loader GX On SD Card (update .dol file) To do this download the most current revision here and copy it to the USB Loader GX folder found in the apps directory on your SD card. Now delete the existing boot.dol file and rename the r921.dol file or most current rev.dol file to boot.dol. Now load USB Loader GX from homebrew and go to GH5 and choose settings. Now change Load game from IOS 249 to 222 and turn the 002.fix on and you're in business. GH5 will now work on USB Loader GX.

    (2) Update USB Loader GX Channel - First delete the existing USB Loader GX Channel if you have one installed. (I'm not going to get in to how to do this... if you don't know how to delete existing channels on the Wii just go to the Wii settings and figure it out.) Now that the channel is deleted, go to your PC and download the r921.wad and put it in the wad folder on your sd card. Now run wad manager 1.5 and choose to install the wad you just put in the wad folder. Let the installation finish and go back to the wii menu by hitting the home button. Now you can change the game settings on GH5 to load game from IOS 222 instead of 249 and turn the 002.fix on. Now play the game and rock on!!~ If this helped you please hit my thanks button!
Thank you so much. After installing with 222, 38 merged with 37
Then 223, 38 merged with 60. After i updated my usb loader through dol and wad. Loaded with IOS 222 and have 002 error fix on. This loaded up my GH5! Thanks! =]

Thumbs up This is even simpler for those who already have USB Loader GX.

    Thanks for this guide.

I already had USB Loader GX installed and working, so I only needed to follow these steps:

4 - Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer
5 - Read the warning message and push A
    6 - Select IOS249 to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
7 - Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select Use IOS38 merged with IOS37
8 - Wait for download and installation to complete
9 - Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer again
10 - Select IOS249 "again" to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
11 - This time select Custom IOS 223 and select IOS38 merged with IOS60
    ...
20 - In USB Loader GX, select Guitar Hero 5, select Settings, select "Game Load" and set IOS to 222, choose "Save" then "OK" then "Back." Now start the game.

The rest of the guide was meant to help you install USB Loader CFG, which allows starting a game under a particular IOS, but in this case USB Loader GX does the same thing.

Yeah, but the problem with the Demo 777 guide is that it will not work with older versions of USB Loader GX. In order for it to work, USB Loader GX has to be updated to support cIOS 222 v4 which the earlier versions do not. The problem people are running into is that the USB Loader GX easy windows installer found on the Google code website installs a very old version of the program and does not update. When you try to update through the program it says no updates found even though there are about 20 updates. Therefore, you have to manually update the USB Loader GX channel through wad manager or update the boot.dol file in the apps/usbloader gx folder on your sd card. You then have to change the name of the r921.dol revision to boot.dol in order to complete the update. I couldn't find this information anywhere online so I decided to post it here as I'm sure most people won't figure out this step. Thanks~

Here is a link to my guide - The GH5 Step You Are Missing - If the Demo 777 guide doesn't work for you then follow my guide and you will be in business.

Can anyone confirm that the usb version works with 4.2 firmware? I have tried several other fixes and none seem to work. Haven't tried this one yet, but wasn't sure if it was worth my time

Thanks! Works great on my 4.2e Wii, except I used USB loader GX instead of the provided one and specified IOS 222 in its load settings

Red face weird problem after using guitar hero 5 guide. need help!

Hi,i'm the official wii troubleshooter of our family clan..we have 4 wii's w/different firmwares 3.2U,4.0U,4.1U and 4.2U all modified w/cios rev14 & back up loader channel all games work except for guitar hero5 and bandhero. i searched and saw your guide (which is very easy to follow! Thanks!) and did this....

Copy the files to the root of your SD Card
    load homebrew
    then load WAD Manger 1.3
    Install IOS56-64-v5146.wad then Install cIOS249-ISO36-rev07.wad
    reset wii

when thats finished go to apps/CISO/boot.dol

Now you need to change custom ISO36 with ISO36 rev7 dip as ISO249 to This
    Custom ISO37 with ISO37 rev dip ISO232

you can change ISO36 with ISO36 rev 7 by pressing down on the wii remote as for the last number ISO249 you can change that by pressing left

MAKE SURE you have Custom ISO37 with ISO37 rev dip ISO232

    then press A to install.

After installation go back to load apps/CISO/boot.dol again

This time you need Custom ISO37 with ISO37 rev dip ISO249

    Press A to install

after that 3 out 4 units were ok & loading GH5/bandhero w/o problems and staying on their original firmwares w/o upgrading to 4.1 except for the 4.1U wii.

now all the games stays on the blackscreen, wont load anymore. so thinking i might have erased or damaged cios rev 14 so i tried installing again thru homebrew channel. when im on the installation screen when im about to press A the wii mote doesnt function anymore so i have no way of installing cios rev14 again. but when i go back to the menu original games & the wii mote works.

any ideas what i did wrong & how i can fix it? thanks!

Have tried to run game with USB loader GX, Wiiflow and Uloader Configurable and all of them do this same thing.

Sounds like you have a bad ISO of the game. Also make sure you have Hermes' cIOS V4 Installed correctly.

    band hero now works

after 4 months of trying it works

it always worked for me from a brickblocked disc on 3.3E wii with modchip, but never usbloadrGX

i updated wii to 4.1, reloaded usbloaderGX to 929, upgraded to cios38r17, redid hermes 222/223 and it still didnt work.

i then used multicios to create 232 only, and it works - even though i use 222and anti002 on.

    but happy

i wouldnt touch 249 as mentioned above.
