I don't know why it would make your HD not be recognized. All I did was change the settings for one individual game, not anything more. I don't think you did what I did.

Do you have the latest version of USB Loader GX installed? I do, and I used that, it lets me change the settings for each game. So I went it and changed the settings for the GH5 game and it worked for me. Don't know what to tell you. :-(

    Breakthrough

I have something pretty important to announce here, and it helps explain why one person' HD was no longer recognized when IOS 222 was loaded.

First, I've finally got Guitar Hero 5 working, and I perhaps know why the tutorial at the beginning of the thread is not working for some people.

I followed the tutorial RELIGIOUSLY, and I was still getting a black screen when attempting to load the game using USB Loader GX.

Now, the site for USB Loader GX tells you that you should use the "first" USB jack in the back for the hard drive, as the second one is "reserved" for USB devices (like for GH5). Now, my hard drive always worked with USB Loader GX, so I assumed I had the hard drive plugged into the right jack.

BUT, when I was desperate, and trying other USB loaders (such as uLoader and CFG USB Loader), I ran into some trouble. First, uLoader would not recognize my drive, so I assumed it just wasn't compatible. CFG USB Loader DID work, BUT... when I ran it with -mload 222, then the hard drive was NOT recognized!! This got me thinking... so I switched the hard drive from one USB jack to the other in the back. AND THEN CFG USB Loader using -mload 222 recognized my hard drive... AND LOADED GH5!

So then with the hard drive plugged into the other USB jack, I tried uLoader, and it worked.

And the final step? I went back into USB Loader GX (without doing anything differently than what I had tried by following the tutorial). And... NO BLACK SCREEN. Game loaded up fine.

SO... what I think I have discovered from all the above is that IOS 222 is more finicky about which USB jack it loads data from. With IOS 249, I can get away with having the hard drive plugged into either jack, but with IOS 222 loading games, the hard drive absolutely HAS to be plugged into a certain jack. If your Wii is laying flat (horizontally), it is the jack closest to the floor/shelf. Up until I tried this, I had it plugged into the top jack.

I am running NTSC GH5 on an NTSC Wii running 3.4u, USB Loader GX (most recent), and Hermes IOS 222 (IOS 38 merge 37). The tutorial for 3.x firmware says you have to update to 4.1, but I am proof this is NOT REQUIRED. Just follow the rest of the tutorial, make sure the drive is plugged into the bottom jack, and you should be good to go.

Let me know if I solved this for some of you. :-)

Hey guys...following the guide I was able to get the GH5 working.
But ever since i did that my GH World Tour gives me the infamous black screen. Individual GHWT settings are IOS 222 as that is the one using IOS 37 merged with IOS38.
Since it did work before I guess something went wrong ?
I'm using USB Loader GX and my Wii is on 4.2e.
Any help would be much appreciated. I did search the forums and besides the "RockGuide" (Rock Guide - WikiTemp) I haven't found anything related directly to my problem.

Ok so newbie here and have scanned the FAQ's but not quite following the details, plus I keep getting pointed to G5 thread for Rock Band. So i have a Wii, using 4.2U safe upgrade, homebrew, coverfloader. So when i go into floader my usb hub light goes out, also drums plugged in directly goes out. Using NeoGamma lights go out, rev7,8. When i use usb loader gx, i get lights flickering but only when i select 223 but black screen no game. select 222, 249, 250 get no lights on instruments but can get game to come up. Really itching to play some "sloppy English drums". Please help

Thanks for the tip stradivari1723. I swapped USB jacks and finally, after thinking I tried everything and about to give up, GH5 works for me.

Glad to hear you got it working. I also have my exernal USB HDD plugged into the lower (bottom) USB port. And I have to change the IOS 249 (default) to IOS 222. DOing that will allow for GH5 to work. I assumed everyone knew which port to plug it into, but appearantly people are overlooking that step.

Glad you took the time to figure it out and report the problem and the resolution. I bet it helped at least a dozen people. :-)

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a wad file for this to load as a channel? I haven't seen any option in crap to force a use of an alternate dol.

    Thanks.
