You need IOS56 to run Rock Band The Beatles and Guitar Hero 5. It is not needed for Rock Band 1

Scorpius: If I actually have an original RB2 and RB Beatles will installing IOS56 cause a problem running them?

I don't think so, but I've never tried. I don't think the patch applied in IOS56 affects the game playibility somehow, just the way the disc is recognized I'm afraid.

Anyway you can always re-install the original IOS56. You can even extract it from the original RB Beatles/GH5 disc using WiiScrubber.

    Thank, thank.
Work fine with USB Loader GX latest version.
    I installed IOS 222, use IOS38 marged IOS37.
Then IOS 223, select IOS38 merged with IOS60.
Then on USB Loader GX select IOS222, and Error #002 anti and ROCK!

I had all kinds of trouble getting Guitar Hero 5 to work. Tried all these suggestions... installing IOS56 etc. Nothing worked, always got black screen. Here's the method I finally found to get it to work.

    1. Install Hermes custom ios on 222 (38 merged with 37)
    2. Load up USB Loader GX and set it to use IOS222 and enable 002 protection
    3. Use USB Loader to boot a DIFFERENT backup (not GH5)
    4. Once the backup loads, press the home button and go back to the system menu.
    5. Load USB Loader GX again. Once your list of backups comes up, pull the SD card.
    6. Launch Guitar Hero 5. I get black screen for about 5 seconds, and then the game launches. It even recognizes my rock band 2 drums.

This was the only way I could get GH5 to load. If I didn't launch another backup first and then pull the SD card before launching, I'd just get a black screen every time.

Gigabulloba, if you already installed the IOS56 patched you have to stop Guitar Hero 5 to load the IOS56 from the disc.

So try this: in USB Loader GX go to Guitar Hero 5 settings and enable Block IOS Reload (the very last setting).

Then it'll work at the first try without pulling your SD card.

Now what I can't seem to fix is that after you play Guitar Hero 5 and press the Home Button and select Wii Menu the Wii freezes. Kinda annoying but not a big deal.

    FINALLY!!

I downgraded my 4.2u to 4.1u and then followed Dogeggs guide for 4.1 softmod and then Demo777's guide for GH5 to load from a USB HDD, and it works!

THANK YOU ALL for some great guides!

    Us update partition

Just wondering. Those of you who have gotten it to load from discs, did you remove the update partition from the disc before burning it? That's what I used to do before I knew about preloader and all that jazz to block them.

I followed the guide but still no joy. I'm sure the guide works cause of all the positive feedback so I'm sure its something I did. Thanks!

I can load GH5 from discs and from USB HDD (both methods). I never modified the ISO. To avoid the update you just enable "Block Disc Updates" in preloader like you said.

I wonder where you're stuck. If you want it to load from a disc I'm afraid you have to use SoftChip and tell it to use IOS 232 (install IOS36 merged with IOS37 as IOS232). Tell Softchip to enable 002 fix and to LOAD REQUESTED IOS (and you must have installed the IOS56 patched first, that's the one it'll load instead of the unpatched version on the disc).

    Scorpius,

Thanks. That's good to know. Something might have happened when I was ripping it from the origional disc. I'm done deleting the update partition from the iso's now but I did that with GH5. I didn't know about preloader for a long time and the thought of disc updates made my butthole pucker. I'll just rip it again and give it another go. Thanks again!
