Question Play Skylanders Giants without accessories?

    Hello,

I've added the game Skylanders Giants on my Wii/Homebrew.

Is it possible to run this game without accessories, as the portal or characters?

    Thanks a lot
    Chris

I don't see how you would do that since the game is linked to the characters that you put on the portal.

    Sorry dude,

All character content is locked via Portal of Power characters. Activision has taken alot of care in making sure there is no way to hack their Portal of Power System. Activision has struck a deal with Toys For Bob (the game designers behind Skylanders) to release at least 3 more Skylanders games right through to 2017, the first of which being released later this year, so I don't believe they would want anyone reverse engineering their system and allowing people to play without Skylanders characters.

Half the fun is collecting all of the Skylanders characters and adding them to your collection anyway. Plus, everything you do with each character is saved onto the physical character via a chip inside it.

Which is why I've not bought this game, since if I did, my kids would be all "I want more figurines!" only to hvae them lost under beds in 30 seconds after opening them.

(My 11-year-old just found her DSi XL which was lost under her bed for almost 6 months. Literally that long)

You dont really need every skylander to complete the game, you only need one of each element (there is a total of 8 elements) to access all areas, yet you can actually finish the game with the 3 skylanders that come in the starter pack... If you're a fan of dungeon crawlers, don't let the kiddy factor put you off... this game is very detailed an complex. I bought this game for my kids, but ended up taking over myself and now I'm a self confessed Skylanders Addict :-)

It's not the kiddy factor. It's the fact that I have 3 kids that will say "I WANT MORE!"

Any chance of elaborating on completing the game with the 3 characters from the starter pack?

You can't 100% the game with only the starter pack, but you can get to the end boss credits.

    In a nutshell.

In each level, you will be presented with gates of certain element types that unlock bonuses like Treasure Chests (which help you with upgrades), hats (which boost stats while a character wears it) and soul gems which unlock preview videos for characters and unique upgrade powers.

These elemential gates are not needed to complete each level (they're sorta like side quests) and only count towards completion percentage. I've found hats aren't as useful as they could have been in this type of game and the bonus upgrades from soul gems arent too great either.

With this type of game its a matter of finding out which character can shoot the fastest, and one of the fastest is Trigger Happy who comes in the starter pack.
