Angry If for the rest of your life, u only had 40 gigs...

u are stuck with a wii and a 40gig hdd... what do u do?? what files/ games could u not live without... what files would i see when i open up your wbfs, wad, apps, and etc folders???

finally found a great deal.. $4.92 including shipping for an enclosure to fit my antique 40GB 2.5" ide drive from an old laptop... yes, its still puny compared to the size of the drives i hear being talked about around here... but i care not, its going to be a million times better than the constant file swaps with the 8GB sdhc card ive been using...

would like to get some opinions on what to slap on my new toy... after formatting to fat32 i am looking at 37.2G... lets go ahead and kill .2 of that for homebrew, usb loader progs, cover art DL's, etc etc... hmmm, dont really need the 8G card i was using for anything else... guess i could keep that plugged into the machine... after format its adding 7.47G to the mix...

so we are looking at about 44.47G all day, give or take... so i ask u, what would u use this space for??? feel free to include wiiware, vc, games, wads....

if u dont have the time nor the inclination of adding up the file sizes to see what would fit snug into the allotted space... just tell me a few of your must haves... if u have the size of the files u are recommending, please post that info as well... it will be a huge help while i compile the program list...

---things u may want to consider while offering your advice---

i like most genres if they are done well...

multiplayer games will be essential for this list... my kids can share 1 player games just fine, but no one likes waiting and watching when they could be playing...

other than that, i just want good, quality programs...

Check out the 2nd link in my sig (Top 25 Wii Games of all time).

I think that only some 15 will fit on a 40GB drive, though.

I don't think 40gb would be nearly enough for me, between all my Homebrew stuff, GameCube, Wii, and Emulator games + my Emnand. I'd need at least 150 I estimate. But if you want some game recommendations:

    Wii Games:

    Wii Sports
    Red Steel
    Tatsunoko vs Capcom Ultimate All-Stars
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
    New Super Mario Bros.
    Donkey Kong Country Returns
    Super Paper Mario
    Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword

    Homebrew:

    FCE Ultra GX
    SNES9X GX
    Genesis Plus GX
    USB Loader GX v3.0 r1203
    Devolution
    WiiXplorer
    VBA GX

yes, i have seen that and some other sites lists as well...

most of those games i have played or are on the list to play soon... i am especially looking forward to no more heroes 1 & 2... loved killer 7, that is the only game from Suda ive ever played... dont know how much longer i can hold out from playing xenoblade!! i am only holding back because i could get a feel for and/or beat a bunch of games in the time i will be spending on that game... once i start in on an rpg like that, theres usually nothing else that will be able to pull my attention away...

being an rpg fan of old, i am very glad to see a nintendo console get a healthy dose of good rpg's, even if it is during its dying days...

Yes, the Wii has some fantastic RPGs including Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and both the Zelda games (Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess).

yes, understood, its already a little low for just the things that i want to ALWAYS be on there, let alone everything else... so until i rebuild the computing arsenal ive recently been relieved of, im stuck with the 40... so yeah, u pegged it, i basically made the thread for recommendations... the 40G limit is the kink, i dont want to know what people think is good, i want peoples opinions on what they think is great, what they couldnt live without on their wii...

im new to the modding scene... wandered the intranets for weeks getting halfassed guides, outdated info, and sometimes total bull$#!+... then i found mauifrogs softmod guide... easy to follow, up to date, every single nook and cranny to the process was covered... been lurking and learning here since... been like alice in a rabbit hole... i figure out one problem, and it opens the door for 3 more problems to solve... think i may be having more fun hacking and cracking my machine than i do playing the games on it...

u mentioned devolution, that was actually going to be what i looked into next... havent used backup GC files yet... before i do, ill read up on dios mios and devolution... not sure if they are both just GC loaders, is one more of an emulator for new wiis that cant play GC games?... is there even a need for either one?? i was under the impression that other usb loaders could play back GC files... guess ill know soon enough

Sort of yes but sort of no, Devolution is an loaded off SD and can be used on any Wii but you still need at least a GC controller (for now) so it won't matter, DIOS MIOS on the other hand, must be installed to your Wii's internal NAND, it loads the games in GC mode and needs (and will always need) a GC controller whereas Devolution loads GC games in Wii mode and will eventually work with a Wii Classic Con.

You can also use both Devolution and DIOS MIOS together, they do not interfere with each other in any way.

USB loading GC games without Devolution or DIOS MIOS can't be done.

interesting, so for those with the newer wiis there is no way around the no GC games yet... i have seen pics of controllers that plug into the nunchuck outlet of the wiimote... i assume it wont be long before something like this will be those players way around their lacking hardware... ill start reading up on that tomorrow when im not so tired and might have a chance at comprehension...
