USB 2.0 External DVD Drive???
Is it possible to use these on the new Wiis that have the D3-2? I found this one on the web Portable External USB 2.0 DVD-ROM Drive for Wii/PC/Laptop $45.73 Free Shipping Has anyone ever tried a usb 2.0 dvd drive on the Wii, or is it even possible?
It should work with uLoader. But spending $46 on a DVD drive, then buying blank media should equal the price of a usb hdd, just my thoughts.

So, you don't think it would work with neogamma or any gc loader. I have a few gamecube backups that I would like to play. Is there a way.

WODE would be the better choice for your specific needs.
I really don't feel like taking the Wii apart just for Wode. All I want to know is if it is possible just to use a usb 2.0 dvd drive to run gamecube backups or has anyone even tried?
I found a method that worked, at least for me...
VERY new to the Wii Mod scene, so be patient...
I would like to give credit to EVERYONE on the scene that has taken the time to
develope the software or write a tutorial. I've spent the last month reading and
double-checking (still not exactly sure what I'm doing, but no hitches so far...)
Just softmoded my first Wii ( a Red one v4.3u) and things went fairly well.
Used the Bathhaxx method to install the HBC and HackMii.
I am using uLoader (and cIOS 222) with an external DVD drive and am able to play
backed up games. From what I understand, it uses a "banner exploit" so I have to have
a regular Wii game inserted into the Wii for it to work.
I realize that it is easier to use an external HDD, but I do a lot of work on PCs, so I already
had an extra DVD drive laying around. I just used an IDE/SATA to USB adapter that
I use when testing or repairing systems. Total additional costs: Zero.
Next I'm going to try using an old HD that I've got laying around. If it works, I can pick
up an external HD enclosure for less than $10. I know, I know...being "cheap", but when
you've got a half dozen 80-160 gb hard drives available, might as well use them. May
even see if a USB hub will work - worth a shot.
My two cents woth...
can anyone tell me if games run better in the usb dvd drive than the actuall wii drive? im having problems with backup games crashing when using the wii dvd drive. will i get the same problem with the usb dvd drive? and also does any dvd drive work? do cds work in the usb dvd drive too?
You can use a usb dvd drive through ULoader to play backups just fine.
i am aware that it works. but is it better than the wii internal dvd drive?
yes the games run at 8X speed on the HDD/USB backed-up games on disc are 4X and official is 6X,
