Well, the reason I am asking is because I once had a disk game that would not start because there were some IOS files I needed installed before it would play, another time some Pokemon Wiiware title would not run until I updated an already existing IOS file to a newer version. I really care more about just making sure all games will run with all their features than my Wii being "updated".

Does the 4.3U System Menu do ANYTHING over 4.1U other than just attempt to remove homebrew? If not, then I have no reason to update anything other than my IOS files (unless 4.1U is incompatible with the newer files, but from what I understand of how IOS files work, that shouldn't be a possibility).

And I know I can install IOS58, but I am sure there were other new IOS files added as well as older IOS files updated right? Is there a list anywhere of what files were added/updated since 4.1U so I can manually add them to my Wii?

Finally, is there any way I can scan my Wii for what IOS/CIOS files are installed, which ones are not installed, and what version they are? I am always running outdated version of my CIOS files because I constantly forget to update them, I am sure my IOS files are very out of date.

This is why I wanted to "update" my Wii to 4.3U.

Games will often "insist" on needing some form of update, whether true or not. That's another reason to have Priiloader installed with the relevant hacks enabled. 4.3 offers absolutely zero functionality improvement over 4.1 or 4.2 and is only aimed at further anti-piracy measures. No game requires a certain System Menu, but all games require a certain IOS and/or revision of said IOS to run.

As for manually installing updated IOS, that's what NUS Downloader is for and it can be found (tutorial-wise) in the recommended guides section of this site. As for your question on what IOS may or can be installed (down to the revisions of said IOS themselves), you can find this here.

On scanning your Wii's internals, you can either use DOP-Mii to do this or via SysCheck as described here.

Some black wiis can accept downgrades.
I forget where I read it, but some came with 4.1, which would allow the downgrade.
I think the issue is when people buy the 4.0+ wiis then downgrade to below 4.0.

They can ONLY except downgrades if you have the required System IOS installed. It is never recommended to do so unless your are following a known and trusted guide such as one by Mauifrog. Don't ever attempt this unless you know what you are doing.

You are correct Krafter, I was merely pointing out that some did come from the store able to downgrade, but only to 4.0.

This would mean it was updated from 4.0 to 4.1+ sometime at the factory.

I just used Dop-Mii to update everything except the system menu, install any missing ios files, and uninstall any stubbed IOS (except for the IOS my 4.1U sysmenu is using and my cios of course)
