WBFS Drive Being Wiped Clean Somehow

Hey, I have two Western Digital 500GB Essential Edition drives and both went empty 1 after the other...

The last thing I did was try to load up New Super Mario Bros, I think I did this on both drives... I dont know if its possible for a bad game to wipe them or what but thats what I want to find out, I will test this out myself in a sec... I loaded the game, black screen, had to hold the power button on my Wii to shut off.

The game didnt load up properly so I connected the drive back to my PC to try and swap out that copy of the game for another, I have like three of them and also some files to patch the game so it will work. Ive had this game working before but I added it so long ago I dont know which one I used. When I tried to load the drive with WBFS Manager it says "Error Loading Drive : Error occurred while loading drive. Make sure the drive is not in use or open and that it has been formatted to WBFS format." I connect it back to my Wii and it gives me some errors asking me to pick a partition or format the drive. I pick the parition that says 465GB and it has 0 games...

Is anyone familiar with this sort of problem? Ive only had this happen once before like a week earlier to my drive. After that erased I formatted it and just mirrored all the games off the second drive which wasnt up to date which is why I needed to find a working copy of NSMB... I dont think this has much to do with the game because my drive did this just a week earlier and it wasnt me trying to find a working copy, I had one already. I would really appreciate any help and if possible a way to fix this and get my drive working with all my games in it, mean while I will reformat one of them and get on with my testing to see what caused this to happen...

EDIT 1: After trying several downloaded copies for NSMB and achieving the same result of a screwed up drive on each failed attempt the one that said it was patched already worked fine and didnt mess up my drive. Weird because I have the patch downloaded and applied it to the download of the unmodified iso and tried that one and it didnt work either. Guess they got a different patch for theirs :P This still doesnt solve what happened on the first wipe a week ago, maybe a different game could have been the cause of that one.. If its at all possible to fix the other drive without erasing all the games on it please let me know.

Crazy MJ! I had the same thing happen to me the other night while trying to load up red steel 2, got black screen and had to hold power button to turn off wii, when it came on and I loaded USB loader GX said it could not find partition. Nor could it be read in my computer using wbfs manager.

I tried a couple of ideas, one of which was WMMS, but didn't work. Ended up having delete partition and set new one and reformat with WBFS. Good thing I have a all retail cd's to dump again...

Did some research thru the forums and found it is possible to corrupt the file system for shutting the wii down like that with the HDD connected. No fix that I have found for this issue.

I did some digging and didnt find anything either, surprised not more replies to this thread being that it seems pretty easy to corrupt your drive and a lot of people should have gone through this before trying to get NSMB to work or that new Red Steel there. Kinda sucks knowing that any new game I test out has the potential to wipe my drive... I dont want to spend hours clicking RAR files and waiting for them to load up before clicking another to get all my games added back on this thing. Looking for a solution to this problem in my other thread.

Well when I get some time I will try experimenting with this thing till I find a fix or something, maybe try powering off the drive first which I doubt will help stop the corrupted but wont know for sure till its done.

I've been seeing this happen quite a bit also most (almost all) of them with usbloadergx users. I don't use it, im a wiiflow fan, but I wonder if it isn't a bug in a particular release of GX or compatiblility with a certain cios thats causing it.

Yes I stoped using GX a long time ago as I found it buggy and unreliable. (just my opinion)

I use CFG USB Loader, Used wiiflow for a while and had no issues either.

Never had a problem with my drive being " erased" but it defiantly isn't because of a game.

well i think that any corrupted game play using usbgx loader would cuz ur partition to get wipe out.. and i think u all should try wiiflow as so far as i am concern i have try playin a corrupted game and as i restart the system and check my hdd , none of my game is being wipe out and wiiflow make the system a lot like xbox 360 when u browse the game and oso u can change skin if u feel bored with the same skin!!!

Playing a corrupted game will wipe out your drive? Wii flow makes your wii more like an Xbox? This has nothing to do with the OP's question.

And as I said earlier gameplay or a game will not erase or wipe a drive. Sorry.

Well its definitely not the games fault that its causing the HD to be messed up. Like im sure its not made with some kinda HD killer anti piracy, lol, but the problem does occur when I try to load the game. The program just needs to be updated to handle this game and others like it differently.

The exact same thing happened to me with the same drive the Western Digital 500GB Essential Edition. Now my Pc doesnt read it my wii shows it as clean :/ Is there any way to even recover this drive?
