Theme any 3.2, 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 Wii with Thememii and mymenuify

Before I get started There is something very important that needs to be said.

"ONLY INSTALL THEMES IF YOU HAVE PROPER BRICK PROTECTION IN PLACE!!"

Which means Bootmii/Boot2 (NOT IOS) with a nand backup and Priiloader!!

Despite what anybody says, Themes are risky and will definitely brick your wii if you are not carefull!! Neither I nor wiihacks will be held responsible if your brick your wii by installing a bad theme. Proceed at your own risk!!

    You have been WARNED!!

For this guide we will be using Thememii 0.4 by Leathl and Mymenuify by Icefire.

Thememii is a powerful application that will let you modify existing themes or create your own but we will not be exploring that functionality in this guide. I might make a guide for that eventually when and if time permits.

You can get your theme myms here. Only use myms for your wii version. If you are 3.2 use the 3.2 or "any wii" downloads. If you are 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 use the "any wii" or 4.0 downloads. NOTE: Some of the 4.0 myms might not work well with 4.2.

    CONVERTING YOUR THEME

    1. Now download Thememii and extract to the directory of you choice on your PC (Thememii folder on your desktop works well)

    2. When you start up the program it will give you a warning similar to the one I posted above! (HINT to all you NOOBS!! We are not BSing you when we say that themes can brick your wii!)

    3. Now that the program is loaded you need to get your menu APP file. Navigate the menu at the top and go to OPTIONS/STANDARD SYSTEM MENU/(your menu version)/(your region) and click on it.

    4. Thememii will prompt you to create a commonkey.bin, type in what it tells you to type in and click OK.(45e in my case, I don't think it ever changes but if it does just type in whatever it tells you too)

    5. Now that you have your app file and commonkey.bin you are ready to convert your theme. Download the theme mym of your choice and put it somewhere easy to find. Navigate the Thememii menu and go to FILE/OPEN click on it. Find and select the mym file of your choice and click open.

    6. Now thememii will display a bunch of info on your theme in its various windows. We do not need to concern ourselves with that cause we are not modifying it. Just click "create CSM" and save it somewhere easy to find.

    INSTALLING YOUR THEME

1 Download mymenuify and extract the rar to the apps directory of your SD card. (sd/apps/mymenuify/boot.dol)

    2. Copy your CSM file to the directory of your choice on your sd card (SD/themes or csm works well)

    3. Put the sd card in your wii, enter the Homebrew Channel and start up Mymenuify.

    4. Navigate your SD card and select your theme csm and install it. It will take a few seconds to install.

    5. Exit Mymenuify and HBC. Take a look at your new theme!

If you want to change themes just install a new one, the old one will automatically be removed. If you want your original wii menu just install your menu APP file with mymenuify (priiloader should not be affected by this method but check its operation anyway.) You can also reinstall your system menu wad with wad manager but you will have to reinstall priiloader if you do.

    In case of a BRICK!!

This will happen if you install a bad theme, install a theme converted with the wrong system menu, or just errors during installation in which case you will get either a blackscreen at startup or a system menu files corrupt message after the health screen.

In most cases hold the reset button at power up to load into priiloader. Boot directly into HBC, and install a working theme or your system menu APP file with Mymenuify to correct the problem.

If for some reason priiloader got corrupted then BOOTMII/BOOT2 and your nand backup is the only thing that can save you. That being said I will say this again.

"ONLY INSTALL THEMES IF YOU HAVE PROPER BRICK PROTECTION IN PLACE!!"

Thanks! My goal was to make a proper guide with all the right info to theme your wii safely. I doubt it would get stickyed cause wiihacks is not a strong supporter of themes and judging from the brick section, I can't blame them. But people will be people and I would rather see them use this guide than a Failtube video. Hopefully more will pay attention to the warnings, they are not there for fun.

    Hi

First thanks for the guide, but I have a few questions

I have bootmii as boot2 and priiloader installed, is it possible for me to get bricked permanently with both of these programs?

If so, what are the odds?

Once again, thanks for the guide

The odds of you completely bricking with boot2 installed (with a nand backup, very important) is less than 1% since themes usually just brick the system menu, which loads after boot2. boot2 is able to recovery from 99% of all bricks.

One of the reasons I chose to write the guide using Thememii instead of Mymenu is that it is easier to get you system menu app and commonkey. Thememii also has some brick protection checks when converting the mym to csm. It will automatically remove hacks that are not supported by your system menu. It's not the completely fool proof but it is better than what we had before.

I can't stand theme threads but you put such a good warning up there it will be people's own fault if they end up bricked. I have boot2 and still won't mess around with themes. That being said, looks like a well written guide. Good job.
