Problems getting Wii to Play DVD's

I followed Shadows guide for the 4.2 but still can't seem to pull up a DVD in Mplayer CE. I have tried Mplayer CE .76 and both beta versions available right now. The screen says mounting DVD then the menu disappears to the background and it sits untill I hit the home button.

DVDX seems to install okay and I have tried installing different versions as well. They all install sucessfully! Still no luck here! If there is anything I am missing then someone please chime in! I stayed up till 1AM and played with it for 6 hours.

you may have a newer wii with the D3-2 chip that cannot play burnt media, if so your other option is using an external hard drive.

Yes thats most likely the case if your wii is new. As stated above you can use an external HDD, USB flash stick or an SD card.
    Damn I suck!!!!

hmmm.... It is very new! But is this just for burnt media because these are actual DVD's I bought.... I am trying Step Brothers at the moment and I can't get anything to play which is a bummer.... Burning them to the HD may be my only option at this point.

No it won't read anything other then an original wii game disc. Which is not a DVD.

Which leads us back to D3-2 again, agreed.

A retail Wii disc is a DVD.

DVD, also known as Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc, is an optical disc storage media format, and was developed and invented by Sony, and Philips in 1995. Its main uses are video and data storage. DVDs are of the same dimensions as compact discs (CDs), but store more than six times as much data.

Could there be something with 4.2 that won`t allow watching dvds with mplayerce cause I got an '06 wii and I was never able to play dvds with it following any of the guides here.

The media is DVD but as he stated in the Wii's case that's data (as opposed to video in so-called DVD format).
