    Advantages of 3.2U over 4.2U?

    I have a release date Wii with Bootmii installed. DVDX is (I think) not installed. Bootmii is installed to boot2.

    I've been using 4.2U with {Hermes v5} with {uLoader v3.5B} for a while now, and I recently decided to check out {SNEEK v2}.

    I went ahead, and made the emulated NAND a 4.2U virgin. Basically, I installed all the latest IOS' (clean)*. I ran NANDclean immediately after. I then deleted all IOS' above 200*.

    After doing so, I decided to try out 3.2U. I downgraded my IOS30 to v1040*, and downgraded my System Menu to v289*. I booted successfully, and System Settings confirmed 3.2U. So, what can I do with it that 4.2U can't?

    I've heard reports of being able to launch Trucha Signed DVD-R through the System Menu, and possibly other game backups. What's the validity of this claim, and is this the only advantage of 3.2U over 4.2U? From what I've gathered the only "3.2U" part of my Wii is the System Menu and IOS30. Do I need to downgrade or TBR any IOS' to enable said DVD-R launching? If so, which IOS' do I need to downgrade/TBR?

    *using ShowMiiWads.

    Running trucha-signed backup discs is possible on 4.x firmwares as well. That's why we run TBR and patch the later system IOS. The advantage of 3.2 is that Trucha is already enabled for system IOS30-64-v1040.

    The only legitimately significant difference between 3.2 and 4.2 is an SD icon on the front menu, that more steps need to be taken when softmodding a 4.2 console, and that an official 4.2 update will bring your boot2 to v4 and install stubs in place of the cIOS. But as far as running backup discs, there isn't anymore functionality in 3.2 than there is in 4.x.

    I removed all cIOS' I had installed. I (just now) patched updating on my SNEEK NAND (3.2U)* to keep myself at 3.2U, and tested a legally bought GHIII Wii disc (not a backup) that had just before the patch asked me to update. So I now have a full 3.2U virgin (SNEEK NAND) Wii that plays normal games without updates. Do I take any further steps to enable backup discs from running directly from the System Menu? Or do I simply load up any backup into Trucha Signer and load the disc into my Wii?

    As for having boot2v4, I'm not too cautious, I have the boot1 exploit.

                    *(u32*)0x013791A4 = 0x60000000;
            }

    Now that you have downgraded to 3.2 from 4.2, be careful you do not accept an official nintendo update of 3.4 or higher, you may brick your Wii.

    I am using SNEEK for NAND emulation, my real NAND is still at 4.2U, loaded with cIOS' and the works.

    The 3.2U has been patched in the SNEEK emulator to decline all disk updates.

    When you say load backups from the system menu do you mean the disc channel? You'd need to install cIOSCorp for that otherwise boot them from a backup loader.

    So I still need a loader or cIOSCorp to run backup discs from the Disc Channel? I was under the impression that fakesigning (via Trucha Bug) allowed the content to be run from the Disc Channel.

    Lastly, will I need to install DVDX to be able to run DVD-R backups, regardless of whether through Disc Channel, Disc Channel (cIOSCorp), or a loader*?

    *Yes, I do realize that as of now, SNEEK does not support cIOS'. (Or rather, cIOS' does not support SNEEK.)

    From my understanding you would want to load Gecko Region Free in homebrew and reboot after enabling certain settings to enable trucha discs from the disc channel. Now that might not be accurate as this is stuff that was going on in 2008, which isn't info I'm too familiar with. As far as I'm aware though, those extra steps (cioscorp/backup loaders) need to be taken before backups will load from DC.

    Just saw your edit: Everything you want to know about dvdx here.

    And with that I'm off for the night. Good luck with your backups, hope that helped some and that you get them running the way you want them to.

    I have Region patches in the SNEEK emulator, I simply need a way to run backups now. It seems I'll need DVDX and cIOSCorp. As for Trucha Signed discs, I assume those will run after the installations, since IOS30 v1040 should have the bug? Or do I need a loader for Trucha discs as well?
