Western Digital My Book Essential Model No. WDH1U10000
I have a Wii with Divekey installed but thanks to NSMB I also began getting into softmoding my Wii.
Now I am very interested in using a USB HDD and need help to make the right choice with the HDD selection.
I have read the compatibility list and I am contemplating to get the Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 2.0 1 TB External hard drive Model No. WDH1U10000.
I am choosing it because, (a) I can buy a Recertified unit for only $95.00, (b) it is 1TB and (c) it seems Western Digital is the way to go here.
1) Does anyone have experience with this drive? Is it recommended?
2) Also, when I shop it around the model number comes up as WDH1U10000N (Note the extera letter N at the end!!!). Is this the same drive?
Thanks in advance.
I have the 500GB version and it works okay. The only caveat is that you have to manually power it down everytime you turn off the Wii or it won't be detected next time you power up. It's a pain, but it'll do for now. (4.1, USB Loader GX).
ive got the 1TB version with 2 partitions, NTFS to use with pc for movies, music and software & WBFS for wii iso's, i don't have to power it down manually, i hot swap too without any issues

1 User Says Thank You jamboT3N82 For This Useful Post
I dont have the WD drive, I have the Seagate FreeAgent, i had the issue of having to power off the drive to get it to work. After the IOS 38 upgrade all these issues went away anf the drive works perfect, so I don't think you will have any issues.
As for formatting - well I did the entire 1TB formatted as WBFS no problems.
i have this and it works perfect for me cant go wrong good choice drive

Don't think that's the issue. Checked and I've got the newest version of IOS38. Bummer, got my hopes up.
