What is best for virgin 4.2U

    Hi,

OK, I fully bricked my Wii yesterday at a point of no return point (black screen at boot up, no freeloader, bootmii...). I decided to go with Nintendo factory and lucky enough my Wii is still under warranty. They said there would be no charge. And another lucky thing is the Nintendo factory is within my walking distance so I don't need to spend a dime shipping. The whole world collapsed yesterday but today it's shinging.

I guess, I would have a virgin 4.2U when I got back my Wii. I'd like to know what is the best approach with this virgin 4.2U Wii (my current Wii is LU, not sure they're gonna change that or not):

    - Bootmii to prevent any future brick.
    - Homebrew Chanel.

Are those possible? Any pointer would be appreciated.

    Thanks a ton.

Chances are that you have a wii that has been neutered by Nintendo.

In all likelihood the Wii that was returned to you has a boot1 version that will not allow you to install the Bootmii as a boot2. Then also a good chance that you have DC2-3 (I think) drive that will not allow you to use DVD - or + R's. This is a hardware limitation on the drive so no software workaround. But all is not lost you can still install a Preloader and a USB loader to play games. Check out the 4.2 Guide under the Tutorials section and you will be back up and running in no time.
