Can I update to 4.1E and not 4.2U so I can soft mod still?

I have a friends Wii which has never had an update. Can i manually download 4.1E to an SD card and update it that way so i can still soft mod it, thus avoiding it going to 4.2U?

You miss my point! Ive already used that guide for MY wii but I have a friend who wants THERE wii updated. If i connect to the net its gonna put it on 4.2U which is no good for a soft-mod. So can I download 4.1E to an SD card then take the update to the Wii and o it that way?

Hope so!

You can update 4.1 without going to 4.2 but you have to make sure you have your right region because 4.1E is Pal and 4.2U USA.

Download Waninkoko 4.1 Updater

****I would check first and see if it still works. Dogeggs used to have it in his sig but for some reason he took it off. Never mind you can download it from his sig. ****

Well I went to Waninkoko forum and for some reason the thread where Waninkoko had all his apps is no longer there.

I didn't miss your point, if you read the guide you will understand what has to be done. If you only want the 4.1 updater its in there, depends on what state of mod your other system is in.
Connecting to the internet will not automatically update you. It will ask you first. Therwise we would all be on it.

Yeah but the title to the thread you gave says "New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii" doesnt say anything about 4.2U. Also ive read on here if i did update to 4.2U i'd be stuffed hence this thread!

Yes its nothing to do with 4.2. You don't want to go anywhere near that.
