IOS223 from this guide is primarily use to: boot MH3, GH5, and Band Hero, and any future games not mentioned. And is use to get the USB microphone working with games that use a microphone. You can set your usb loader to boot (all your Guitar Hero and microphone games) with IOS223. For games that can use 2 or more microphones, get you a usb hub, nintendo recommends a premium logitech usb hub that uses an external power source to be compatible.
IOS224 gets the mic working in the Grease game. That is installed with Hermes v5, link below.
The Guitar Hero mic seems to be the most compatible mic, if you installed everything correctly and still cannot get your non-GH mic working then perhaps try a GH mic, there are some used ones for sale at GameStop, under $10.

As of now, Configurable USB Loader is recommending to use Hermes IOS222/223 v4.
Do not install Hermes IOS222/223 v5 and expect it to perform like Hermes v4.
I have changed this guide to install more in the line of how Hermes cIOS installer v5 installs in reguards to IOS222/223. You may read in the following thread up to post 162 how IOS222 was installed as 37 merged with 38. Back when I created this guide, the USB Loader GX website suggested installing IOS222 as 37 merged with 38, but now this guide has you install Hermes IOS222/223 the way that Hermes intended it to be installed.
You may find old guides that have you install Hermes v4 IOS222 as 38 merged with 37, and IOS223 as 60. Don't do it, that is how it was done in the past, because USB Loader GX didn't have support for IOS223, it only had an IOS222 option.

This installer works good with cIOS38 rev17, if you have IOS249 rev19 or rev20 with
a base of something other that 38 then this installer may not work for you. Your
options are to use another IOS with ES Identify or reinstall your IOS249. You can
also install IOS236, and use that in place of IOS249 to run the installer. IOS236 is
nothing more than IOS36 with all of the patches, installed to slot 236. IOS236 can
be used to run any homebrew app such as Wad Manager, DOP-Mii, etc...... I would
not use IOS236 to run a backup launcher.
Download IOS236 v5 installer (requires HBC 1.0.7 or higher)

This installer will do a wifi install of the cIOS(s). If your Wii is not connected to the internet with a wifi connection then there are additional steps you must use.
additional steps for offline install
If your Wii is not connected to the internet, then you will need to do these additional steps. You will be downloading the required IOS's with NUS Downloader.
First, you will need NUS Downloader

Now comes the hard part.
- Use NUSD to download IOS60 v6174. You will now have a downloaded folder named 000000010000003Cv6174. Rename the folder to v6174.
- Use NUSD to download IOS37 v3612. You will now have a downloaded folder named 0000000100000025v3612. Rename the folder to v3612.
- Use NUSD to download IOS38 v3610. You will now have a downloaded folder named 0000000100000026v3610. Rename the folder to v3610.
Now that you have the 3 folders, you will be moving them to the 3 folders within the 00000001 folder. You should have all ready downloaded the package I provided called Install Hermes v4. Unzip that download if you haven't all ready. You will see a folder called 00000001. Open the 00000001 folder and you will see three more folders. This is how the 00000001 folder will look when you are done with it.
copy and paste the v6174 folder to the 0000003C folder
copy and paste the v3612 folder to the 00000025 folder
copy and paste the v3610 folder to the 00000026 folder

Now, the 00000001 folder is ready to be used.

INSTALL
1. Remove all GameCube memory cards and controllers, remove any disc that may be in the DVD slot, and unplug any usb device that may be plugged in. * This step is very important. Do not ignore it .
2. UnRAR the Install Hermes cIOS v4 archive and copy the cIOS_installer folder to sd:/apps/
3. copy the 00000001 folder to the root of your SD card (for offline install)
4. Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer
5. Read the warning message and push A
6. Select IOS249 (or IOS236) to perform the install with D-pad left/right and push A
7. Select to Install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS38
8. Wait for download and installation to complete
9. Start HomeBrew Channel and start the cIOS 222 Installer again
10. This time select Custom IOS 223 and select IOS37 merged with IOS38
11. Hermes cIOS is now installed.
12. Look HERE to install IOS202 and IOS224 from Hermes v5.

EDIT - I just got done installing this and all went well. Guitar Hero 5 and MH3 loads with IOS223 mload, if installed to the guide above, and will not load with IOS222. So, those of you who used IOS222 to load Guitar Hero 5, from the previous guide where IOS222 was IOS38 merged with IOS37, save new boot settings to IOS223 mload, after installing Hermes cIOS v4.
If you had Hermes cIOS v3 installed like above then you will not need to make any changes in reguards to which IOS boots certain games, all should be the same.
IOS223 also works with MH3, Guitar Hero Van Halen, Band Hero, and Lego Rock Band and rock Band Beatles, and it gets the microphone working with Sing It games.:D
