Found this on gbatemp, some people are having success with it so it is worth trying It uses wiigators cboot2 to run a special wad manager that in turn you can use to install the LU64/65 fix. [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]
1: Copy contents of 'SD Card 1' to SD card.
2: Put card in Wii and go to Data Management > channels > SD Card, then you will get a message saying "Load boot.elf? Select 'Yes'.
3: Install Bootmii v2 as an IOS.
4: Install the Homebrew Channel
5: Remove SD card and save the Bootmii installation to your PC.
6: Delete Bootmii installation off of your SD card and copy contents of 'SD Card 2' to your card.
7: Now put card back in, restart your wii ,start HBC, press home then run Bootmii.
8: The screen will be black for 10 seconds then Wad manager will run.
9: Select uninstall first then install IOS16.wad and do the same for LU64.wad.
10: Go to HB channel and run cIOS38_rev13b-Installer.
11: Done, now you can install a backup loader or usb loader.
guide orig posted by flavors, i just made it a bit (lot) more user friendly
Step 4 says install HomeBrew Channel.
Will this work with a no Twilight Hack version of HomeBrew?
preloader doesn't work on lu64/5 and isn't a backup loader anyway.....try neogamma for disc loading - it works fine
Thank you doggeggs! Since preloader doesnt work, and bootmii installs as an ios instead of a boot2 (rendering the restore nand backup impossible?), what options are there for brick protection?
Since my aim is to merely play iso's off usb loader gx and wad games, is it ok to just play without brick protection?

As long as you are careful with your wii you should be ok - don't go messing about deleting stuff and download your wads from reputable sources and you will be fine...

Hi, I had the HBC but I didn't install the bootmi, so I followed the guide, but when I put the sd card with "SD Card 1" I get the black screen, so I've formated the wii, and tried with another SD card but it's always the black screen, also I've formated the sd cards to fat 32 and 16, any idea??
Does anybody have problem with Forwarder Channels?
I tried both USB Loader GX and CoverFloader. They run fine from the homebrew channel, but giving me blank screen if using Forwarder Channel.
Finally it worked, I just update the wii and put the SD card, run it and finally pass the black screen, I hope this helps.
Thanks a lot.
Yes it worked for me 2. I updated my wii as well and bammm no more black screen. After that installed everything and neogamma and now can play backups.
hello, im on step 7 -8, (trying to run bootmii). it's taking way longer than 10 seconds to load bootmii, it just shows a black screen. can anyone tell me what's wrong? (im on lu65, sys menu 4 of course....) I'm too afraid to turn it off...
