Stuck trying to get WiiGator backup working

I know backups are a sensitive issue and this is my first post so please let me know if I step over the line.

It looks like the WiiGator backup loader requires a custome firmware and infact comes with the custome firmware installer.

I had previously loaded up the HBC, then had let the system rev my firmware up to version 4.

Over the weekend I found wanikoko's firmware downgrader and reverted to system 3.2u as that seems to be the recomended firmware for the broadest compatibility.

THe instrucstions I've seen for loading up the WiiGator backup loader 0.3 gamma involve first loading a new cIOS that comes packaged with the backup loader. But when I run the cIOS upgrader from the homebrew channel, it opens and shows all the start up text (it's a patchmii dreivitive) and says press A to proceed, but when I press A nothing happens, tried from a gamecube controller and the wii controller but nothing, it just sits there.

    any ideas?

    will do.

I've got a the backup launcher installed as a channel from a wad, do you know if it should "just work" now or do I need to reinstall it after loading the cIOS?
