    Devolution or DIOS MIOS?

Hi, I'm new to this and have soft modded my Wii. I have had trouble running GC games from my HDD through DIOS MIOS (It's fine with a flashdrive). I have a big HDD though, and I like the idea of having all the GC games and Wii games together. How does Devolution compare to DIOS MIOS? Is it worth running both?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a stupid question

Devolution is better than DIOS MIOS for many reasons.....mainly it works better and has more features. The main one for me is DIOS MIOS has audio issues on many games that Devolution runs perfectly.

The only thing, IMO, that makes people prefer DIOS MIOS is that Devolution has anti-piracy features that you can't get around. You have to have the actual gamecube disc which also means you have to have a Wii that supports gamecube. You have to verify each game one time meaning before you can play it off the HDD you have to insert the disc in the Wii to verify you own the game and didn't pirate it. Once it's verified you can play it whenever with that HDD and that Wii. If you alter the verification file in anyway you will have to reverify, you can not just copy the file to another hard drive or anything like that and you can't take your hard drive to another console.....well actually you can take it to another console in the latest Devolution as long as you bring a Wiimote that was syncd while you verified and you than sync it to another console.

Basically Devoltuion is better but it's anti-piracy makes it a bit messy and complicated to some people. It's not really and I would highly recommend it as long as you have a BC WII and the actual discs. Follow SNES masters Devolution guide on this forum...it's excellent.

Devolution is great because it includes audio streaming which some games use. With audio stream games on Dios Mios, you'll miss sound effects, music and voice clips or just have no sound at all for those games. Devolution's memory card (if you use emulated memory) can also easily be renamed to a .raw file and be used with Dolphin on a PC. Devolution also supports alternative controllers (Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Pro Controller and PS3 Controller). Lastly, Devolution does not install to your system. It runs off SD/USB like most other apps so if you decide you don't want it anymore you don't have to mess with your NAND, just find Devolution's loader.bin or boot.dol (depends on how you use devolution) and delete that.

Dios Mios has it's own benefit in the way of not requiring disc verification but this is mostly helpful to people who's disc drives in their Wii's are dead.

There is also a 3rd option you may not know about, but I can't give much info on it cause I've actually never used it. Nintendont.

Nintendont is a GCN USB loading app created by crediar (the guy who made Dios Mios). It is basically comparable to Devolution but with a few key differences. 1) it doesn't require disc verification. 2) It uses the same memory cards (applies to emulated memory only) as Dios Mios did, 3) it has very low game compatibility.

As Nintendont wasn't fully developed before crediar quit on it, it is now being worked on by a new team. So far it is still a work in progress but may be worth looking into anyway.

Doesn't Dios Mios also take away the ability to run burned backup gamecube media (DVD-R)?

The old versions used to break the ability to run retail discs I think but the new versions fixed that if I recall.......

I saw some OP posts in the DIOS MIOS guide too...sounds like a hard drive or loader issue with DIOS MIOS. The formatting is right but it sounds like the HDD has only been tried with gamecube.....I would suggest trying a Wii game. Sometimes HDD goes in to a sleep mode or have random issues if they are USB powered. You can try to power it externally or get a Y cable and plug it in to 2 USB ports. Sometimes there is software that came with the HDD that lets you change settings that will fix your problems...turning off some power saving or sleep mode. If the HDD doesn't work with DIOS MIOS it probably won't work with Devolution I would think but I could be wrong.

In my experience with Dios Mios (which way back on 2.4 up to 2.6) it took away all disc playability for me. But my disc drive was dying so that could've been part of it.

I've had Dios Mios boot the disc in the Wii before, I was expecting Wario World to start up and instead I see the DBZ: Budokai opening. Couldn't tell you why, because my understanding of it was that it replaced the stock MIOS, removing the ability to launch NGC games by disc.

Wii games work fine with the HDD. I'll have a look at the drive software and see if that has anything I can tweek. Thanks.
