Dvd disc not playing on 4.3U Wii

I softmodded my family's wii last week and tried playing a dvd in it and it wasn't detected. The wii was running 4.3U and I went through the soft mod guide. I also done my gfs wii 2 weeks ago and was running 4.3U as well but it was able to play DVDs. Not sure what the difference could be but I'm scratching my head bout this.

    Thanks!

Is your GF's Wii an older model and your family's system a newer model?

So, sounds like the answer is yes.

The DVD drives used in the systems were changed starting somewhere in late 2008/early 2009. The new drives would not read burned media or DVD-movie disks. They could only read DVD Game disks.

So sounds like this is the case. So unless you want to frankenstein an old DVD drive into the newer system, there's nothing you can do to get it to read DVD movies.

The Wii makes a lousy DVD player anyway. There are $20 devices from Wal-Mart that work just as good as the $150 Wii in terms of being a DVD player.

But what about games backed up to dvds? Will that work?

Just double checking so I'm not burning all the backups for nothing.

    But thanks!

The answer won't change, regardless of the number of times you ask. The sooner you realize this, the better a user you will become.

You can play DVD's via the Homebrew Channel with MPlayer (Mine says "MPlayer CE"). The disc channel will fail to recognise the disc but if you install DVDx (its called "DVDx Installer" I think) then MPlayer will run DVD's

Should probably clarify that mine is one of the older model Wii's soft-modded with the LetterBomb hack, so I don't know if this will work for you, but it is what works for me.
