Wii U Pro Controller - Can we use it on the Wii?

From what I can tell online (there is surprisingly little information about this), the new Wii U Pro Controller will not sync with the Wii, and cannot be used to play Wii games or on the vWii. Is this true?

If so, my question is, this controller is getting a lot of positive feedback. Has anyone looked into hacking this controller to work on the Wii?

I know that certain emulators on iOS already support this controller, so it would seem it's doable via software, but I don't see anything about it on here. It would be great if the emulator developers could provide a way to sync it to the old Wii, as it's a great and cheap system, one of the best for retro emulation in my opinion.

I'm between either that or just building an HTPC for my retro games. The other Wii Classic and Classic Pro controllers which tether to wiimotes are a mess in my opinion. I don't want that big thing dangling around.

This is an interesting theory but as far as I know it is not being worked on right now, if it will be at all. Mostly because I don't think there's a lot of interest in it since the Wii already has a traditional controller in the Classic Controller & Classic Controller Pro not to mention old Wii's which can use GameCube controllers. Still I would love it, I like the Xbox 360 design and would love to use the Wii U ProCon on my old Wii.

Weird. The nyko one at target specifically says its for Wii and Wii U. I have my doubts though.

If anyone has any new info, awesome.

Well there is a 3rd party branded controller that resembles a 360 and SNES hybrid that says it's for Wii & Wii U but I did not know about that at the time of my initial post. I have no clue as to how it works (or if it does at all cause I haven't bought it nor will I) but I wouldn't doubt that it does somehow work.

I just don't see what problem people have with the old Classic Con for Wii, I like it. It's like an SNES controller with 2 joy sticks.

That's interesting. I guess nyko could have made the controller to work as a pro controller and a wii mote classic controller combo that doesn't need to be plugged in to a wiimote. That would be kind of cool.

The thing I saw the other day about the nyko controller is it swaps the A and B buttons (but not the X and Y). I would not like that at all.

edit: after a quick look it looks like their is a bad image floating around the net showing the button swap. On nykos page it's normal. I also don't see anything about it supporting wii or having a classic controller operating mode. I am assuming the controller we are talking about is the pro commander.

edit2: I found there is a controller that says it works with wii and wiiu
    Interworks ?Controller Pro U? review

this one does not function as a pro controller at all however. It works like a wiimote plus classic controller in one (no need to plug it in to a wiimote) and is compatible with wiiu in the same way. The pro commander is compatible as a pro controller (not wii compatible)only as well. There is not a single controller that can no both functions that I am aware of.
