Ca Need Some Help making a thread title for NEWBIE here!

So I have just had my Wii softmodded, with wiiflow and an external hard drive with the games put on.

If I am posting in the wrong area, I am sorry, please move me accordingly Administrators

So my hard drive is failing, I actually knew this before I had the games put on, but live and learn, thought it might work. So, I bought a new hard drive and the guy that charged me for all my games and mod etc., wants more money to transfer to the new hard drive...so being fairly smart and google worthy, here is where I am at:

    • downloaded and installed WBFS manager
    • hooked up new hard drive and formatted it accordingly
    • hooked up old drive, loaded and can see games
    • now doing a very very very long clone of drive (failing one) to the new one

    But am wondering:

Do I need to do anything else? Copy anything else etc?
it says that it is doing 2 of 59 but don't see anything in the new drive in the WBFS manager...so just wondering if I am on the right track here, or if I am missing some really key elements and if someone could help me out, I can't afford the drive and paying this guy again so any inut would be nice so I don't let this clone for 12 hours to find out that I am not even close in the process here.

Thanks very much, and try not to be to technical with me, as I said I am a NEWBIE...but hey you gotta start somewhere right?

Thanks in advance to everyone that might try to help me

Thats pretty lame the guy formatted it to wbfs. Anyways, thats pretty much all you can do is sit and wait. WBFS Manager copies the games to your computer first, then over to the new drive instead of directly, so it takes a dang long time if you have a lot of games.

And by the way, I hope he sold you all the original discs to go with those games, because if not that is piracy, and we do not support piracy here.

no piracy, I had all the games, just wanted to run off the drive and not be bothered with disks all over the place etc., I don't support piracy either

So this will do the trick though? If I clone it? Just was wondering about all the other files, that were on there, images, covers etc etc etc, will using WBFS take everything I need and clone it, then when done I can plug this one in and all my games will be back?

Yes, very lame of the guy, he is just trying to make a buck off of me and laugh at it, so I am trying my best to make this work...so just wondering if I am on course or on a crash course

    thanks for any replies

A wbfs formatted drive does not have any images or covers on it. Those are all kept on your sd card.

Yes this should do the trick, as long as the new drive is compatible. Its just gonna take a long time

time I have...lol but ... ummmm there is no SD card in the wii...thought there was, but nope there is not....so now really confused!
    but thanks for answering!

could that be the file folders that I saw on the drive with games and then covers etc?
will I need to transfer those over to or will the WBFS do those also?

    really really appreciate your time!

If you saw files and folders, the drive is not formatted as wbfs... Is it fat32 formatted? Or maybe 2 partitions, one fat32 and one wbfs?

must be partitioned, as it is wbfs as it read the files no problem, but I saw folders....so basically how would I partition the new drive....it is weird, the drive starts as g then has like a sub drive of h?

Ahhhh, thats the issue. The guy who modded it created a fat32 partition for your apps/covers/etc, then a separate wbfs partition for games. Problem is the fat32 partition should be first and the wbfs second if thats the route you want to go (wbfs is antiquated and no longer recommended) If you formatted your new drive to just wbfs, you wont be able to use it for apps or covers. You will need a fat32 partition. Problem is that no partitioning program natively sees a wbfs partition that I know of, so resizing and adding a fat32 at the beginning might be an impossible process. (based on my experience, I could be wrong)

    Heres what I would recommend:
    1. Stop the cloning process
    2. Use wbfs2fat to convert the wbfs partition on your old drive to fat32.
    3. Use Easus to merge the two partitions.
    4. No special program needed to copy the drive contents to a new drive after that, just drag and drop everything on the new drive.
    5. Use a dif prog like WiiBackup Manager to manage your games afterwards.
