Optimal cIOS setup?

I am currently in the middle of a wait for a modchip so as to unbrick a Wii I intend to send to a friend overseas (I have another for personal use). I'm posting with a few questions.

I have gone through a number of guides and so on, and I'm noticing that a number of the guides are old or conflicting, talking of cIOS this or that (such as 249, which Nintendo stubs in 4.3). So I'm trying to see if anyone has some kind of up to date guide for what is the best combination of cIOS's to install on a soft-modded Wii: both those with and without the capacity to play backup discs (I've noted in some parts of the world it's hard to tell if the disc you get is real or bootlegged). I am already well aware of the bare essentials (using LetterBomb to run HackMii, get BootMii installed in some manner, then HBC as well as installing cIOS 236 and Priiloader). I'm more interested in what cIOS's are best. As of now, the suggestions I've followed have told me to install d2x (currently v8) to cIOS 248 (base 56) and 247 (base 57) as well as Hermes to 224 (base 37). Should I make changes?

ModPack.zip and IOS Update.zip from mauifrog's Softmod ANY Wii guide.

I have a question about that guide, which I've noted is about a year old. It seems to assume a Boot2 BootMii, which I cannot do. I've also heard conflicting reports about IOS 249. Now, System Menu 4.3 stubs that IOS and expects a stub there or it'll prompt for another update, so I've heard. Does this softmod prevent this from happening, even with 4.3-packed discs? I see most of the others are just custom IOS's, but this business about altering IOS 60 (which I've read is a system IOS, IOW Brick potential) has me concerned. I've already hit the bricks once already, so let's just say I'm hesitant due to an abundance of caution. Also, I note that this uses a GameCube compatibility MIOS, so I would imagine this is not advised if you intend to use DIOS MIOS.

There's no reason to be concerned. There are hundreds of people who have followed the guide with full success, including me. Another reason to follow that guide is that it's author is mauifrog. He is a very experienced and intelligent hacker and has packed the IOS and cIOS he thinks to be best. Altering IOS 60 and installing it in slot 70 also gives brick protection for Korean region-changed Wiis incase they get the 003 error, which is very hard to fix.

OK, I HAVE read the whole thing and noted inconsistencies, is all. Anyway, if what you say is true, then perhaps the best course of action for me would be to backtrack a bit once I get the Wii unbricked and make sure Priiloader is added. I've been following other guides which had me place some 200-series cIOS's in other places, so I'll take them out and use the guide instead. Sorry if I seemed clueless, but I was approaching the problem as once-bitten twice-shy.

PS. I wanted to make sure about DIOS MIOS since my version of cfg can do DM. I'll just make sure to reinstall DIOS MIOS after installing the package so that it's in charge again.

No need to uninstall anything, doing that could do more harm to the system. Following this guide will overwrite any IOS, cIOS or cMIOS installed by any other guides.

Also what inconsistencies did you see in the guide? I saw no errors and I've used that guide to do 3 different Wii's with no issue or confusion...
