    Western Digital:

    Hi Jax

    This drive does not have smartware it was brand new sealed in the box also went onto the western digital website and there is no sftware for it apart from quick formater?

    The software listed on the WD website is in fact labelled Quick Formatter ...HOWEVER, if you scroll down and look at the description, it says "This utility disables the Idle timers on select WD Elements Drives." Since your drive is brand new - even if for some reason it formats the drive it won't matter - just make sure if you do it is FAT32. But either way - if it disables the idle timer (sleep mode) and leaves you with a clean drive... problem solved!!
