WasabiDX: Can't sync wiimotes after BT replacement

Hey all. First of all, thanks for all the great info I have found in these forums. Y'all have gotten me through a lot of issues in the past, and I'm hoping someone can help with this one.

My Wii quit working a couple weeks ago. After a waterboarding session (I kid, I kid), my 11 year old admitted to upgrading the system menu to 4.2. I didn't believe him since I have a Wasabi DX with update blocker enabled installed. After that, I was getting the black screen at boot, which I thought was a brick. After doing some testing and swapping parts around with a friend's wii, I found that the BT module was bad (I was able to sync the wiimotes to his BT module and confirmed the system was @ 4.2, which I'm less than thrilled about as I hadn't installed bootmii to boot2 because I wasn't using HB due to the modchip...but I digress). I ordered a new one, and installed it when it arrived today. Yay, no more BSOD!.

Unfortunately, there is still an issue : I can't get the wiimotes (either of them) to sync. I followed all the normal procedures of clearing any sync settings by pushing & holding the sync button for 20 secs (did it on both the console and the wiimote, although I didn't see anything that indicates the wiimote actually needs it done), then pushed the sync button on the wiimote followed by the sync btn on the console. I've tried every combination I can think of, doing one first then the other, simultaneously, holding it upside down while doing the chicken dance with underwear on my head (you get the idea), but nothing seems to work. Is it possible that the new BT module is bad? Would the Wii even boot if it was? I'm at a loss, and would appreciate any help/insight. TIA.
