Mine does the same, but it will let me boot PAL games (which is my region) but NOT NTSC games. Try booting up a backup of a game in your wii's native region.. should work..
Wasabi's R+D team are currently looking into it for a fix.

@salvo_b, what about this then? Doesn't quite match with your explanation of the 4.2 update.
But this is going to be an endless discussion where you keep saying not to update my Wii and I will keep saying that I won't update it because I've got another way to play Wii Fit Plus.
It's just the fact that this is a forum where many people look when they encouter problems with their Wii or when they've got questions. So it would be nice to have one clear answer to the question, it could help other people who look here.
And I don't know how it's possible that your Wasabi DX is dead, but all I read is that 4.2 kills the region-free. So you could still use the Wasabi DX to play games (original and backup) from your own region.
I won't update my Wii to the 4.2 version, because I found another way to play the game and because there is one person saying that when I do it will kill my Wasabi DX modchip.
And to react on your comment about the topic title, the person who started this topic didn't know he couldn't play import (NTSC in his case) games anymore and so his Wasabi chip seamed dead
until he tried games from his own region (PAL).

Anyway, let's leave it to this...
If there are other people who updated their Wii to 4.2 with the Wasabi DX chip, let me/us know how it's working and what exactely the deal is about playing originals/backups from your own region.
@salvo_b, thanks for the quick reactions anyway and you too have a great weekend!
