Could Someone Please Explain to me about Wii Updates and Bricking?Noob

I don't understand do all Wii updates brick your Wii or just the imports?

Do you need to ever update your Wii except for the Mod Chip?

How would you update your Wii if you have to with a Mod Chip inside of it?

Thanks for your Time

Firstly an answer if you have solely a modchip and no softmod whatsoever.

1) No updates don't brick your Wii unless they are imports.

2) Yes.

3) Just update using disc or through Wii wifi.

Now if you softmod at all (includes cIOS and HBC)

Don't update using any official update, especially if you have downgraded your system menu.

If you must update then use a safer hacked Wanikoko update.
