    @ Juminoz

I would say its your media/wii laser. Its possible its not good enough media anymore for the wii as the laser has likely been weakened. What media are you using ?

    My recommendation:
Verbatim dvd-r made in Japan/Singapore or even Taiwan
Burn 4x burn speed using The Official ImgBurn Website, best burned with pioneer 111 or higher burner.

This is one of the most common problems/questions/solutions in regards to this, the updating is likely more of a coinincidence in my opinion.

This is a brand new Wii though. I have only used it a few times.

I finally figured out how to downgrade the firmware and it seems to be working better, though every once in a while I still need to eject the disc and reinsert it.

I have been burning DVD using DVD-R, but by Princo and I use my MacBook to do it coz I don't want to invest in a drive.
