i had this issue with update blocker enabled in wasabi config.
most newer games would not play,i made sure the .iso was my region then diasable update blocker reinserted game and the game installed a update and the games then played.
make sure iso matches you region of cosole before updating its very important .

    Hi Jay,
My update blocker is enabled,i think it was just for some reason my wii didnt like the way my pc burned games onto verbatim discs, cos as soon as i tried sony ones they all work now. strange!

Strangely tonight i tried sony disks instead of the verbatim's that everyone seams to recommend using & hey presto it seams my succsess rate has lifted, more are now working.
Still early days yet though as only burnt a couple off.

if your still getting black screen with punch out its prob because punch out needs an update to play. since you have no softmods go into ur dx settings menu and make sure "in region game updates" are not blocked and import games updates is blocked. punch out will prob then ask to update, let it do so and it should play fine, pending its a good burn. when it comes to burning there are many variables such as media brand, burn speed, the dvd burner your using, the burning software your using, etc. i would just make sure you use dvd-r discs and play around with the other variables i listed until you find one that works for ya. i personally use sony dvd-r discs burned with imgburn @ 6x speed and have never had a problem, i also use hp dvd-r discs burned with imgburn @ 4x and never had a problem. its just a matter of finding what works in your personal environment.
